Boom!
The Weighty Book slipped from his hand, smashing the one chair in Mahama's home that had been lucky enough to remain standing into splinters and leaving a crater beneath it.
Clatter!
The rattling of chains rang out almost simultaneously.
Ruger rolled his shoulders and slowly descended to the ground. That numb, powerless feeling was truly unpleasant.
"I thought this spell you'd never seen before would be enough to make you wait patiently until I finished my questions. I also displayed more than enough arrogance, yet you still rushed to behave so discourteously."
Ruger paced near the three of them, walking back and forth without any hurry.
While in the air, he had kept adjusting his position precisely so he could bring all of them within the spell's range.
The Weighty Book's crashing descent had also been deliberate. He had indeed lost control of his limbs for a moment, but he could have used the attraction between knowledge of the same origin to save Mahama's poor, solitary chair. Just then, however, he had noticed something unexpected. The falling Weighty Book intercepted a strange dagger shooting up from below before crashing to the ground. These two worked well together: one specialized in sneak attacks, the other in immobilizing people. They were well suited to hunting someone down.
"You wanted me to take that thing out? Had you already tampered with it?"
With his hands behind his back, Ruger walked around the three of them, turning toward the man being pursued to resume their unfinished conversation.
"Sir, it won't have any harmful effect on you. That is my mission, what Barry Danton instructed me to do: release it after traveling certain distances, at certain places he calculated. We have a contract, so it won't have any harmful effect on me. The same
