Background / History

Kenjaku has lived across several centuries by transferring his brain into new hosts. During the Muromachi period, he operated publicly as a physician capable of using Reverse Cursed Technique to heal others, while concealing his true identity. He encountered Zenin Gen—later known as Xuan—after Gen became the era’s strongest sorcerer. 53

His long-term objective was to use Tengen’s barriers and the Culling Game to gather cursed energy from Japan, assimilate humanity with Tengen, and produce a colossal vengeful cursed spirit. Kenjaku described the game as an “insect-fighting contest,” with sorcerers serving as the insects. 34 53

Kenjaku persuaded Gen to enter a binding vow: Gen would provide a finger to participate in the Culling Game and assist in sustaining it, while Kenjaku would preserve Gen’s body for future revival. Kenjaku’s interest in Gen was not limited to the vow; he became obsessed with obtaining Gen’s body, whose Mahoraga’s Mark had adapted it to countless technique-affecting attacks. 53 86

In 2018, Kenjaku entered Sendai Colony to deploy Kurourushi as a restraint against powerful awakened sorcerers. He returned a golden cursed tool to Gen in exchange for Gen sparing Kurourushi, revealing that he wanted the Culling Game to continue for as long as possible. 6

Personality

Kenjaku is calculating, patient, and intensely manipulative. He withholds key information, exploits binding vows and hostages, and treats allies as pieces within larger experiments. He is willing to abandon plans, change bodies, or flee when survival and long-term objectives demand it. 6 88 106

His curiosity is as central to his actions as his ambition. He pursues unprecedented outcomes—human evolution, a super cursed spirit, alternate futures, and the limits of cursed techniques—while remaining fascinated by individuals such as Gen, Sukuna, and Yuji Itadori. 53 111 113

Kenjaku’s pursuit of Gen’s body became a personal fixation. After repeatedly failing to overcome Mahoraga’s Mark, he continued researching methods to enter the body across multiple lifetimes. 86

Abilities & Skills

Brain Transplantation

Kenjaku transfers his brain into other bodies, allowing him to survive across eras and use the abilities of his hosts.

  • Has inhabited multiple bodies over centuries, including Suguru Geto’s body and, at points, Zenin Gen’s body. 57 86 105
  • Retains innate techniques acquired through past hosts. 88
  • Sought Gen’s body because of its immense cursed energy, extreme sensory capabilities, and adaptive defenses. 86 87
  • His control over Gen’s body is initially impaired by information overload and unfamiliarity with its shikigami. 86 87

Cursed Spirit Manipulation

While using Suguru Geto’s body, Kenjaku commands cursed spirits and can use them for combat, substitution, surveillance, and large-scale schemes.

  • Released Kurourushi to keep powerful Culling Game players in check. 6
  • Used Cursed Spirit Manipulation to seize control of Tengen. 89
  • Can deploy spirits as decoys or substitutes to evade direct attacks. 120
  • Can combine special-grade and Grade 1 cursed spirits into Uzumaki for overwhelming cursed-energy output. 120
  • Intended to feed his cursed-spirit stockpile into the super cursed spirit formed through his plan. 111

Idle Transfiguration

Kenjaku uses Idle Transfiguration to alter souls and flesh, heal damage, and implant or remove modifications.

  • Attempted to use it on Gen’s preserved corpse, but Mahoraga’s Mark adapted to the technique. 41
  • Used it alongside Reverse Cursed Technique to repair damage during his battle with Gen. 89
  • Planted Idle Transfiguration marks in Yuta Okkotsu and Megumi Fushiguro, then removed them as part of his escape agreement. 106
  • Used it to protect Megumi and Yuta long enough for himself and Sukuna to escape. 106

Future Observation

Kenjaku possesses a technique that simulates possible futures and transmits selected information from them.

  • Observed tens of millions of potential worldlines but found no future in which he won against Gen in the current world. 111
  • Developed a strategy around combining Future Observation with Ito Mamoru’s technique, which can send touched objects into an observed future. 113
  • Used this research to send Sukuna to an alternate worldline in which Gojo remained sealed. 113

Vessel-Derived Ten Shadows Abilities

While controlling Gen’s body, Kenjaku gained access to the Ten Shadows Technique and its shikigami, though he struggled to use them at first.

  • Summoned Round Deer to heal his brain and body with Reverse Cursed Technique. 86
  • Manifested Mahoraga’s wheel to adapt to Satoru Gojo’s Inviolability. 106
  • Used shadows, Blood Manipulation-like armor, and shikigami-derived techniques while fighting Gen’s allies. 105 120
  • His Mahoraga-based adaptation did not immediately grant mastery of Gen’s body or combat style. 86 87

Barrier Techniques

Kenjaku is a highly capable barrier user and uses barriers to isolate opponents, sustain the Culling Game, and manage large-scale cursed-energy operations.

  • Uses Tengen’s barriers as the foundation of his nationwide assimilation plan. 34 53
  • Expanded a domain to isolate Yuta’s group while holding Tsumiki hostage. 98
  • Maintained hidden Culling Game conditions designed to begin Japan-wide assimilation after his death. 113

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Prison Realm — Kenjaku tampered with it as part of a contingency against Gen, Sukuna, and Gojo. 88
  • Black Rope — Acquired after taking Suguru Geto’s body; he investigated its technique-disrupting properties against Gen’s defenses. 57
  • Cursed-spirit stockpile — Includes special-grade and Grade 1 cursed spirits used for Uzumaki, battlefield control, and substitutions. 120 121
  • Kogane surveillance bugs — Used to monitor Gen, Yuta, and others before their transmission channels were blocked. 111

Relationships

  • Zenin Gen / Xuan — Former binding-vow partner and Kenjaku’s primary obsession. Kenjaku preserved Gen’s corpse, spent lifetimes researching Mahoraga’s Mark, and repeatedly attempted to claim Gen’s body. 53 86
  • Tengen — Central component of Kenjaku’s assimilation plan. He relies on her barriers, later controls her through Cursed Spirit Manipulation, and keeps her close while arranging his contingencies. 34 89 113
  • Ryomen Sukuna — Strategic collaborator and occasional fellow escapee. Kenjaku uses Sukuna as a major variable in plans against Gen and Gojo, including sending him to another worldline. 106 113
  • Satoru Gojo — Major adversary and one of the “variables” Kenjaku considers dangerous to his plan. Gojo dismisses Kenjaku as far weaker than Gen despite the body he has acquired. 88 105 106
  • Hajime Kashimo — Kenjaku invited Kashimo to the future with the prospect of fighting Sukuna, while intending to preserve Kashimo’s corpse as a cursed object. 18
  • Yuji Itadori — Kenjaku refers to Yuji as his child and recognizes that Yuji’s rapid growth has become a serious disruption to his plans. 111
  • Yuta Okkotsu — Opponent who identifies Kenjaku’s impersonation of Xuan through a code left behind by the real Xuan. Kenjaku later uses Yuta as leverage and a target of Idle Transfiguration. 98 106

Story Role / Major Arcs

Culling Game Manipulation

Kenjaku organizes the Culling Game to generate and direct cursed energy while using cursed spirits such as Kurourushi to prevent powerful players from ending the game prematurely. 6

Pact with Zenin Gen

Through a binding vow made in the Muromachi period, Kenjaku secures Gen’s finger for the Culling Game and promises to preserve Gen’s body. This agreement establishes the foundation for Kenjaku’s later attempts to exploit Gen’s corpse. 53

Pursuit of Gen’s Body

Kenjaku discovers Gen’s preserved body in the Kamo Clan’s Cursed Repository and attempts to overcome Mahoraga’s Mark through Idle Transfiguration, cursed tools, technique-affecting abilities, and eventually brain transplantation. 41 57 86

Conflict with Gen and Jujutsu High

After confronting Gen, Kenjaku relies on healing, adaptation, cursed spirits, and psychological manipulation to survive. He reveals portions of his plan, weaponizes Gen’s past, and seeks time to escape rather than defeat Gen directly. 87 88 89

Great Cursed Spirit Plan

Kenjaku spreads fear through staged disasters and cursed-spirit attacks, directing the negative cursed energy produced across the world toward Tokyo. His intended result is a super cursed spirit formed from the cursed energy of Japan’s population and strengthened by his own cursed-spirit collection. 110 111

Alternate-World Strategy

After Future Observation fails to reveal a winning path in the current world, Kenjaku combines it with temporal displacement to send Sukuna into an alternate worldline. He then positions himself as a planner and morale-builder for the surviving Jujutsu High forces in that world. 113
