Background / History

Sukuna was originally a human curse user regarded as the strongest in history, though records and later sorcerers called him the King of Curses. He lived roughly a thousand years before the modern era and counted Kenjaku and Uraume among his closest companions. 29 75

After being defeated by Zenin Gen, Sukuna reflected that he had been killed not by time or illness, but by someone stronger than himself. Uraume then arranged for Sukuna to restart through his preserved original body, sacrificing their own continued presence to give him that opportunity. 75

In the modern era, Sukuna resides within Yuji Itadori. Yuji's body contains approximately fifteen of Sukuna's fingers, yet can restrain him; Sukuna's cursed energy does not directly overwrite Yuji's physical body. 44 50 Sukuna temporarily takes control during the battle with Kinji Hakari, then clashes with Zenin Gen in a prolonged series of open-barrier domain battles. 50 52

After his defeat and restoration to his original form, Sukuna is pursued by Gen, disrupted by Fumihiko Takaba's Comedian technique, and repeatedly pressured by Mahoraga and Megumi Fushiguro. 76 77 81 83 He later invokes the Enchain binding to seize Megumi's body and escape alongside Yorozu. 100

Appearance

Sukuna's appearance changes according to his vessel and state. While possessing Yuji, he alters the body's hairstyle into a slicked-back look; Takaba temporarily reduces him to a child-like form. 50 77

His restored original form is markedly inhuman in structure:

Personality

Sukuna is intensely proud, provocative, and contemptuous of opponents he considers beneath him. He toys with Hakari during their fight, openly taunting him even while Hakari is in an invincible jackpot state. 50

He values strength above conventional morality and seeks opponents capable of challenging him. However, his battles with Gen expose a more reflective side: Sukuna acknowledges Gen's superior preparation and admits that he may have lost even without Gen's Domain Expansion. 51 75

Despite his arrogance, Sukuna can act pragmatically and cooperatively when survival demands it. He joins Gojo against Gen, uses binding vows to restore Gojo's cursed energy, and accepts a lasting reduction in his own future recovery rate to keep their alliance fighting. 114 129
