Background / History

Huo Gu designed the Titanium Snail after deciding that its new organism needed to survive super tides while remaining light, durable, and mobile. He rejected calcium and iron as skeletal materials, conducted extensive environmental-reactivity tests on titanium, and based the final form on a straight-shelled nautiloid. 26 27

The completed original model was an eight-meter conical organism. Huo Gu named it “Titanium Snail” because of its snail-like orthocone-nautiloid form and titanium-alloy shell, despite feeling an unexplained sense of familiarity with the name. 27

Huo Gu later used a sensory rhizome bridge to transfer his consciousness from the seabed nodular mass into a Titanium Snail, allowing it to serve as his mobile body during the volcanic-island project. 28 While fleeing the island, it could drift slowly with minimal energy expenditure to imitate deadwood, then use its water-storage propulsion to enter a maze of volcanic smoke plumes for concealment. 31

During the seafloor catastrophe, Huo Gu ordered a group of Titanium Snails to activate their sodium-powered escape propulsion. Some were swallowed by an underwater whirlpool; Huo Gu’s own Titanium Snail was pulled into an underground hollow but survived repeated collisions with the tunnel walls because of its titanium-alloy structure. 34 35

Titanium Snails were later deployed as aerial weapons against giant tornado columns. Their hydrogen-oxygen propellant detonated under lightning strikes, scattering coolant-forming hydrogen and oxygen through the cumulonimbus clouds to disrupt the tornadoes’ structure. 46 The Collectors preserved the design in their genetic memories and recreated flying models during a later invasion. 115

When Perpetuity fought traitorous Collectors, a Titanium Snail used sodium-water propulsion and its conical tip to plow through a force of hundreds of millions, repeatedly piercing enemies and stone pillars in a devastating charging assault. 91 92

Later models incorporated Metallic Hydrogen propulsion, granting substantially improved performance in the gaseous biosphere. Huo Gu reinforced one model’s tip to a monomolecular structure with electromagnetic force, allowing it to pierce colossal creatures at extreme speed. 255

The original Titanium Snail resembles a long, straight-sided cone based on an orthocone nautiloid. Its silvery-white shell has a silver-gray metallic sheen, while its hardened chromium head is steel-gray. 27
