Background

Wang Xuance is a transmigrator who has lived two lives. His mother died of illness, while his father was taken by a ferocious beast during work. Left with three taels of silver, he wandered alone and spent years saving ten taels to learn martial arts at Tower Stele Martial Hall 1.

Tower Stele Martial Hall was annihilated over the remnant Profound-rank cultivation manual known as the Eightfold Heavenly Gang. Wang Xuance obtained the manual after the hall master’s illegitimate son died while fleeing with it, then became a target of the massacre’s perpetrators 1 2.

During his escape, he was beaten nearly to death by three Fetal Breath Realm cultivators. The monk Kongxing intervened, threw him away from the battle, and instructed him to take a token to Great Vajra Mountain. Kongxing was believed to have been killed after buying Wang Xuance time to escape, but later reappears and reveals that he possesses an unusual ability to act in two places at once 1 55.

Kongxing later reveals that the Eightfold Heavenly Gang is an incomplete four-volume inheritance of the destroyed Two Chan Temple. The art pursues bodily cultivation to an extreme, but its incomplete state will eventually cause Wang Xuance’s violently surging blood and qi to shatter his body. The remaining three volumes are located within the Two Chan Temple Ruins, making entry into the ruins necessary for his survival as well as his advancement 56.

Appearance

Wang Xuance is a handsome, clear-featured youth with a martial practitioner’s defined physique. His body develops rapidly through cultivation, eventually exceeding seven chi in height, with arms described as thick as rafters 1 16.

Personality

Wang Xuance is driven above all by survival and strength. The destruction of Tower Stele Martial Hall and Kongxing’s apparent death leave him convinced that weakness allows others to decide his fate; he trains relentlessly and seeks every viable route to advancement 3 12.

He is wary of unsolicited help and quick to suspect traps, refusing Xu Dalin and Song Damao’s hunting proposal amid reports of soldiers disappearing outside White Light City 13. He also refuses Chen Linger’s offer to join the Chen Clan despite her promise of a martial-aperture cultivation art, preferring the dangerous but independent path available through the army 14.

His caution does not prevent ruthlessness or opportunism. He agrees to assist Chen Linger’s plot against Chen Feng once her payment becomes worthwhile, and he kills hostile bandits without hesitation to obtain bounties and True Martial Qi 5 6 7.

His later experiences make him still more guarded. Though grateful to Kongxing, he refuses to place complete trust in the monk after learning that he is being sought as a tool to open restrictions within the Two Chan Temple Ruins 56. In the Loulan Forest Sea, he treats hostile martial artists as threats or potential sources of intelligence, killing those who resist and coercing survivors such as Qiong Shan into serving as guides 67 68 72.

Wang Xuance becomes the apparent surviving target of the Tower Stele Martial Hall extermination after acquiring the Eightfold Heavenly Gang. He survives three Fetal Breath Realm pursuers only because Kongxing intervenes and sacrifices himself 1 2.

The manual’s true significance becomes clearer much later: it is an incomplete Two Chan Temple inheritance and a key related to the opening of the Two Chan Temple Ruins. Its incompleteness creates a fatal cultivation defect that Wang Xuance must resolve by obtaining its remaining volumes 56.

Enlistment in the Mountain Sea Guard

He reaches White Light City and enlists for the relative security, martial resources, and opportunity to build strength. After reaching the Second Blood Barrier, he refuses Chen Feng’s demanded tribute and begins earning True Martial Qi through sparring with fellow soldiers 2 3 4 5.

His military experience also gives him access to martial lectures concerning the six realms, Martial Apertures, and Essence of Blood and Qi, strengthening his determination to become a Martial Practitioner 10 11.

Bandit Hunt and the Great Arm Scripture

Seeking bounties and True Martial Qi, Wang Xuance leaves the city to hunt sand bandits. He kills several armed opponents, survives Snow Scorpion Bone Poison, and discovers the Great Arm Scripture hidden in a bandit’s body 7 8 9.

The Great Arm Scripture later becomes one of his principal methods of body tempering. During Wu Shan’s attack, he expends his accumulated True Martial Qi to unlock its Copper Flood Dragon Realm and Azure Edge Battle Slaughter 30.

Chen Linger’s Deals

Chen Linger offers resources in return for his cooperation against Chen Feng. Wang Xuance accepts the payment but plans contingencies against betrayal; later, he refuses her invitation to join the Chen Clan while accepting a separate arrangement to explore an ancient cave dwelling 5 6 14.

Their entanglement continues through the Chen Clan’s internal conflict. Chen Linger provides Wang Xuance with concealment armor and resources in return for his assistance, while Wang Xuance uses the identity of Mo Wang Xiu to intervene without openly exposing himself 45 48.

Six Halls Martial Meet

With his future constrained by Chen Linger’s demands and threats linked to the Eightfold Heavenly Gang, Wang Xuance enters the Six Halls Martial Meet to accumulate True Martial Qi and seek a breakthrough. Though still only at the Two-Knock Blood Pass, he chooses Flying Fish Martial Hall disciple Li Mingyu as his first opponent 17 18.

His battle with Li Mingyu establishes his reputation, while advancing Vajra Fist to mastery lets him defeat Hua Ruoxi of White Ape Martial Hall and shatter her sword barehanded. Mo Wushuang’s intervention saves Hua Ruoxi but provides Wang Xuance with a major harvest of True Martial Qi 19 21 22.

The meet descends into chaos when Wu Shan and six black-robed figures appear. Wu Shan exposes his connection to Tower Stele Martial Hall, kills Li Mingyu and other disciples, and attempts to seize Wang Xuance’s inheritance. Wang Xuance survives by forcefully advancing the Great Arm Scripture and using Azure Edge Battle Slaughter 23 30.

Ancient Cave Dwelling and Buddhist Legacy

Wang Xuance meets Chen Linger at Sunset Slope and enters an ancient cave dwelling with her 33. During the ensuing events, the entity Wu Yi attempts to possess him in a mist-filled dreamscape, only to be absorbed by an ancient Buddhist martial art within Wang Xuance 40.

Wu Yi’s continued presence within his body becomes a new threat, while Kongxing’s return reveals the deeper connection between Wang Xuance’s inheritance, the Two Chan Temple, and the coming ruins expedition 40 55 56.

Chen Clan Contest

Acting under concealment, Wang Xuance aids Chen Linger during the Chen Clan’s succession conflict and fights Chen Kexin, a gifted sword-radiance cultivator 48 49.

He ultimately overpowers Chen Kexin through his perfected Vajra Fist, Dragon Elephant Grand Stance, and Great Arm Scripture. His display of a genuine body-tempering martial art draws the attention and covetousness of the Chen Clan elders, but he refuses recruitment because he values freedom and the army’s supply of True Martial Qi above clan patronage 50 51.

Border-Army Trial and Loulan Forest Sea

After passing the Three-Knock Blood Pass assessment by lifting a stone pedestal thirty times, Wang Xuance enters White Light City’s border-army selection 44. He receives military equipment and a teleportation token before being sent beyond the pass to assassinate Barbarian Tribe members near their cities 59 62.

After becoming a Martial Practitioner, he enters the Loulan Forest Sea en route to the Longshui River. There, he destroys groups of ambushing Great Zhou bandits, defeats Qiong Shan, seizes the Azure Coin Sword Canon and Bamboo Horse flying sword, and subdues several surviving local martial artists for information 63 64 67 69 72.

At the perfected Fetal Breath Realm, Wang Xuance prepares to cross Longshui River with coerced guides. He encounters a Barbarian Tribe martial artist near the river and enters another dangerous confrontation when a mysterious spear-wielding figure intervenes 72 73.
