Background
Freya was the Republic’s first Treeborn Elf and the first naturally born member of her race. Her age was unusually difficult to record because she counted her embryonic incubation years, while official records counted from the day she first touched the ground. At one point, official records placed her at roughly twenty-four while she insisted she was thirty-one. 236 249
She was born with a body and spiritual activity equivalent to a second-stage lifeform, which gave her exceptional natural potential. This did not automatically make her a second-tier Witch Doctor: she remained stalled at the advancement threshold for years because the Witch Doctor path required consciousness integration in addition to innate life-stage development. 245
Freya reached adulthood when she began ovulating and proudly declared herself a “Great Elf.” Nesta confirmed her maturation and instructed her to have Azshara preserve the reproductive cell. 236
Appearance
Freya began as a comparatively small Treeborn Elf, standing a little over two meters tall and weighing nearly five hundred kilograms, much of it from her dense bones. By the Inferno Star expedition, she was 4.2 meters tall and weighed 4.7 tons. 236 362
- Purple eyes and long pale lilac-to-grayish-white hair and eyelashes. 236
- Athletic musculature built for both explosive force and agility rather than the bulkier frame common among troll warriors. 236
- Broad-spectrum color perception, including partial perception of ultraviolet and infrared light. 236
- Prefers ornate, vividly colored clothing and accessories, including metal-powder makeup, earrings, gemstone ornaments, and spider-silk garments. 236
Personality
In her youth, Freya was lively, boastful, mischievous, and intensely resistant to being called “Little Freya.” She skipped meetings, avoided serious work, and was prone to treating her physical strength as proof of maturity. 248 249 268
She nevertheless cared deeply about being recognized as an adult and capable researcher. Losing her Rune Council seat upset her despite her habitual avoidance of council duties; afterward, she focused more seriously on engine development. 268
By adulthood, research experience and physical maturation had made her more steady and calm, though she retained her warmth, vanity, and playful manner around Nesta and her peers. 274 300
Abilities & Skills
Witch Doctor Spellcasting
As a fifth-rank spellcaster, Freya can divide and coordinate her consciousness across multiple cell-body avatars and operate through large mimetic structures. 361 363
- Fused with a mimetic-body spacecraft and assumed direct control of its thrusters, central intellectual brain, Beast King Cage, and gravitational-field systems during orbital insertion. 362
- Her avatars can receive and share information through a main consciousness thread across the spacecraft, orbital station, and planetary surface. 363
- Commanded automated exploration vehicles, atmospheric sampling, isolation-chamber construction, and material surveys on Inferno Star. 363
Physical Prowess
Freya possessed extraordinary strength, speed, agility, and explosive potential even before reaching full maturity. 236
- Could nearly match adult troll warriors in arm-wrestling and racing as a young elf. 236
- Was expected to eventually surpass earlier warrior generations in raw strength. 236
- Had the ability to transform into a Blade-Tusk Beast form, though she was prevented from joining an active pursuit on one occasion. 263
Engineering and Research
Freya developed from a project intern into a major engineering lead. 249 274
- Interned under Maxista to gain research-management experience and contribute to construction-machinery engine development. 249
- Led the Land Power Project to a phased conclusion. 274
- Produced the air-breathing turbine gas engine and piston gas engine. The turbine engine offered significant capability but required costly materials and had poor low-speed efficiency; the piston engine provided high output torque, rapid startup, and broader civilian applicability. 274 275
- Proposed using gravity-field-anchored relays with Holy Light reception and transmission functions to extend the Virtual Realm’s reach between planets. 361
Enhanced Vision
Freya’s senses distinguish far more color variation than ordinary trolls can perceive. 236
- Can perceive subtle divisions within apparently identical colors. 236
- Can partially recognize ultraviolet and infrared light. 236
- Perceives the faint radiance emitted by advanced Witch Doctors’ bodies. 236
Equipment / Items
- Elisa — adult Black Blade-Tusk Beast companion; protective of Freya and large enough to serve as her mount. 236
- Mimetic-body spacecraft — expedition craft operated through Freya and Agatha’s fused cell bodies during the voyage to Inferno Star. 361 362
- Beast King Cage — spacecraft component used to power totem inscriptions during the Inferno Star mission. 362 364
- Air-breathing turbine gas engine — Land Power Project result with demanding materials and installation requirements. 275
- Piston gas engine — Freya’s second major engine achievement, suited to civilian mechanical-power applications. 275
Relationships
- Nesta — elder, guardian-like mentor, and Republic leader. He sees Freya much like a daughter or niece, pushes her toward responsibility, and intends to assist her future advancement. 236 249 297
- Azshara — senior Witch Doctor whom Freya calls “Sister Azshara.” Azshara recognized Freya’s maturation and handled preservation of her reproductive cell. 236
- Maxista — engineering mentor; Freya interned under him before taking on construction-machinery engine research. 249
- Agatha Tess — fellow fifth-rank spellcaster and Inferno Star expedition partner. Their skills complement each other, with Freya generally directing planning and control while Agatha provides analysis and support. 361 362 364
- Elisa — Magic Beast companion. Freya can restrain and direct her despite Elisa’s hostility toward Nesta. 236
- Mechanism Tusk — collaborator on the Land Power Project. 274
Story Role / Major Arcs
First Treeborn Elf
Freya’s birth and development served as a major proof of the Republic’s Treeborn Elf cultivation program. Her mixed potential as both a Witch Doctor and a physically formidable future warrior demonstrated the advantages and complications of elven life-stage development. 236 245
Engine Development
After Nesta reprimanded her lack of focus, Freya joined Maxista’s engineering project to prove she had grown up. The loss of her Rune Council seat later drove her to devote herself more fully to research. 249 268
Her Land Power Project eventually produced two major engine designs, establishing her as a leading researcher rather than merely a talented young Witch Doctor. 274 275
Inferno Star Expedition
As a fifth-rank spellcaster, Freya led the first manned voyage to Inferno Star with Agatha Tess. She directed orbital insertion, surface reconnaissance, environmental sampling, deployment of exploration vehicles, and the first phase of base construction. 361 362 363 364
Fortress Planet Planning
As the youngest caster in the senior circle, Freya questioned whether making a fortress planet habitable would compromise its combat value, showing her willingness to challenge long-term strategic proposals. 372
Notable Quotes
“Little Freya—no, Freya is a Great Elf now!” 236
“I’m thirty-one!” 249
Trivia
- Freya secretly altered a commuter pod’s guidance system so that it emphasized, “I’m Not Little!” whenever someone called her “Little Freya.” The Witch Doctors kept the feature because it was considered the system’s only genuinely “intelligent” behavior. 250
- Her distinctive voice was used as the basis for the commuter pod’s synthesized guidance voice. 250
