Background / History
Tushan’s identity is inseparable from the Bitter Love Tree, which supports reincarnation-bound love for human-demon couples. Its three royal leaders, including Tushan Honghong, were born from the tree; their demon power draws on powerful emotions, including hatred. 401
The former King of Tushan, Feng Xi, cultivated hatred in Tushan Honghong from childhood and attempted to steer her into becoming a pawn for Feng Xi’s plans. Feng Xi later remained imprisoned beneath the Bitter Love Tree while continuing to monitor Tushan’s affairs. 360 403
Before Feixiao’s arrival, Tushan largely focused on defense rather than expansion. Its position as a major demon kingdom deterred open conquest, but the One Qi Dao League repeatedly harassed and coveted its territory. 401 408
Society and Reincarnation-Bound Love
Tushan accepts ordinary humans more readily than other demon territories, particularly humans in relationships with demons. Some couples remain in Tushan City after making wishes beneath the Bitter Love Tree. Daoists and other humans with spiritual power are treated differently because of the ongoing human-demon conflict. 401 418
Red Thread Fox Spirits maintain Tushan’s central institution: binding the red thread of fate for lovers separated in a previous life. This work is also a form of cultivation, strengthening both their demon power and emotional power. 401 410
- Human-human and demon-demon couples cannot use the Bitter Love Tree’s reincarnation-bond process. 406
- The Bitter Love Tree is vital to Tushan’s economy as well as its fox demons’ purpose and cultivation. 401 407
- Negative emotions created when human-demon bonds break can be absorbed by the tree and form dark power, which may split into independent monsters. 405
Tushan City
Tushan City is the kingdom’s central and most important settlement. It contains winding bluestone streets, antique towers, courtyards, markets, and a population consisting primarily of fox demons alongside some human residents. 418
The city’s relative openness to human-demon couples distinguishes it from the surrounding world, where hostility between humans and demons remains widespread. 418
Governance
Royal Family
Tushan was led by three royal fox sisters born from the Bitter Love Tree.
- Tushan Honghong — First Mistress and King of Tushan prior to Feixiao’s takeover; a Demon Emperor whose Insulated Claw can seize and destroy magical artifacts, spells, demonic power, and sword qi with her bare hands. 401 402 413
- Tushan Yaya — Second Mistress; possesses exceptional innate talent and begins seriously cultivating ice demon power after witnessing Feixiao’s strength. 405 407
- Tushan Rongrong — Youngest sister; focuses on the practical consequences of political change, especially its impact on the Bitter Love Tree and reincarnation-bound love. 407 412
Although Honghong initially fought Feixiao to defend Tushan, she ultimately chose cooperation. She judged that resistance was futile and that Feixiao’s plans could potentially benefit Tushan and advance human-demon coexistence. 402 406 407
Feixiao’s Control
Feixiao arrived intending to requisition Tushan as the foundation for unifying the Circle and fighting the races beyond it. She did not consider the title of King of Tushan important; her priority was Tushan’s obedience to her command and military arrangements. 388 401 406
After defeating Honghong, Feixiao forced Tushan’s gathered demons into submission. The Silver Fox Guards did not resist, and Honghong later silenced protests from high-ranking Red Thread Fox Spirits before formally handing over Tushan’s authority. 405 407
Military Forces
| Force | Function | Known Details |
|---|---|---|
| Tushan High-Level Imperial Guard | Protects the royal family, core regions, and important figures; maintains internal royal order | Its members are comparable to great demons. The rarely seen Night Guard is considered one of Tushan’s strongest trump cards. 408 |
| Silver Fox Guards | Conventional military and primary border-defense force | Conduct patrols, sentry duty, and border security; equipped with specialized weapons and armor. Their chief instructor was Kong Qing. 401 408 |
| Fox demon clan forces | Auxiliary forces drawn from Tushan’s various fox-demon branches and personal followers | Mobilize during major crises to resist external enemies. 408 |
| Green Hill Army | Feixiao’s newly recruited offensive army | A force of thirty thousand fox demons personally trained by Feixiao for external campaigns. 408 413 |
Feixiao initially found Tushan’s defensive forces insufficient for her planned campaigns. She therefore recruited and trained the Green Hill Army while retaining the existing forces for support, security, and post-battle administration. 408 416
Story Role / Major Arcs
Feixiao’s Requisition of Tushan
Feixiao selected Tushan as her first territory because it was strategically significant and populated largely by fox demons, whom she believed would be more likely to identify with her. 362
She arrived by starskiff and announced her intention to use Tushan as a base for unifying the Circle, launching expeditions beyond it, and reclaiming territory from Outside the Circle races. 401
Tushan Honghong confronted Feixiao directly. Despite entering the Demon Emperor realm and wielding the Insulated Claw, Honghong was defeated after the power of hatred drove her into a frenzy. Feixiao subdued her without killing her. 402 403
Reorganization and the Green Hill Army
With Honghong’s cooperation, Feixiao surveyed Tushan’s military, took effective control of its original forces, and recruited thirty thousand fox demons into the Green Hill Army. 408 410
Feixiao and Cuiyu Ling experimented with Feixiao’s blood to improve fox demons’ constitutions. An early transformation produced an uncontrollable wolf-like creature, which Feixiao destroyed; later work produced a substance suitable for large-scale enhancement. 410 412
War with the One Qi Dao League
When the One Qi Dao League invaded Tushan, Honghong defended the city and protected the Silver Fox Guards but was wounded by a Heart-Piercing Nail while resisting a large sword formation. Feixiao arrived, blocked the formation, and annihilated numerous invading Daoists. 413 414 415
Feixiao then led the Green Hill Army into One Qi Dao League territory. The army ambushed reinforcements, captured enemy cultivators, seized territories and cities, and reached the League’s headquarters. 416 417 418
Rather than erase the One Qi Dao League, Feixiao planned to stabilize and eventually transfer its territory to a younger human generation, including the Mask Group, since Tushan could not govern all human lands by itself. 416 421
