Within the Five Elements Grotto-Heaven, in the courtyard atop the central mountain peak, a figure sat cross-legged beneath the Enlightenment Tea Tree, comprehending the Dao. Dao sounds rumbled around his body as spiritual energy surged into him like a tidal wave.
Suddenly, the Dao sounds gradually faded, the Dao charm dispersed, and the violent spiritual energy fell silent in an instant.
The figure slowly opened his tightly shut eyes. A gleam flashed through them before dimming, leaving them tranquil and profound.
After a hundred years of secluded cultivation, his newly attained Golden Immortal cultivation had not only been completely stabilized, but had advanced another step, reaching the peak of early Golden Immortal.
Shaking out his sleeves, he rose and came before the courtyard gates that had remained closed for a hundred years.
"Congratulations, Master, on your great advance in cultivation!" When the phenomena in the small courtyard dispersed, the bee queen Ziyu, who had hurried over and waited outside, promptly bowed down, her voice trembling slightly.
Yellow Dragon nodded and looked at the bee queen. "Mm, not bad. Your cultivation has improved greatly—you have already reached the peak of True Immortal. It seems you have not been slacking off these past hundred years."
He then asked, "Ziyu, has anything happened over the past century?"
Ziyu hurriedly said, "Reporting to Master..." Before she could finish, Yellow Dragon interrupted with a frown.
"Call me Old Master from now on. Calling me Master sounds awkward."
"Yes, Mas... yes, O-Old Master."
Having changed her form of address, Ziyu continued, "Reporting to Old Master, everything within the grotto-heaven has been normal. However, several decades ago, someone calling himself Xuandu came to visit you. But Old Master was in seclusion at the time, so he left, saying that he would visit again once Old Master emerged from seclusion."
She paused and glanced at Yellow Dragon's expression. Seeing that his gaze had softened somewhat, she continued, "About ten years ago, an elder who claimed to be your senior brother also came. Seeing that Old Master was still in seclusion, he asked me to give this to Old Master after you emerged." She carefully took out a green jade slip.
With a beckoning gesture from Yellow Dragon, the jade slip flew into his hand.
As his divine sense swept over it, Senior Brother South Pole's voice rang out in his mind: "Junior Brother Yellow Dragon, congratulations on breaking through the Golden Immortal bottleneck and attaining the undying Golden Immortal. From this day forth, you shall share Heaven and Earth's lifespan, with Great Luo within reach!"
"Now, our three masters are in seclusion comprehending the Saint Dao, yet we disciples of the Three Pure Ones do not know one another. I have discussed matters with Guangchengzi, Junior Brother Duobao under Martial Uncle Tongtian, and Junior Brother Xuandu under Eldest Martial Uncle. We shall hold a Dao discussion conference for the disciples of the Three Pure Ones at my Jade Pillar Grotto-Heaven, inviting all our brothers and sisters under the Three Pure Ones to attend. First, so that all junior brothers may become acquainted and strengthen the bonds of our sect; second, so that we may sit and discuss the Dao, spar and verify what we have learned of the Great Dao. I hope that Junior Brother will attend on time after leaving seclusion." The voice faded, and the jade slip dissolved into motes of clear light in Yellow Dragon's palm.
"A Dao discussion among the Three Pure Ones' disciples... Senior Brother South Pole has a fine idea." Yellow Dragon murmured. He had just emerged from seclusion and happened to need a period of rest. He also wanted to know what changes had occurred in the primordial world over the past century. There were still roughly three years until the conference, so there was no hurry.
Yellow Dragon first surveyed the Five Elements Grotto-Heaven's current state, then used the divine ability Sweet Dew Technique to water all the white lotus, Blood Red Dates, Enlightenment Tea Tree, and other immortal herbs and spiritual medicines within the grotto-heaven over and over again.
That white lotus had already grown a flower bud, and it was extraordinary in appearance as well. There was a great chance that it would become a graded innate spiritual lotus. Yellow Dragon paid it particular attention, maintaining an unceasing flow of sweet dew over it for several consecutive days.
The Blood Red Dates in the rear date orchard had begun bearing fruit long ago after more than a hundred years of growth. Though they did not qualify as spiritual roots, they were still spiritual fruits that took three years to blossom, three years to bear fruit, and another three years to ripen—extremely rare indeed. They had ripened twice before, and all the fruit produced had been harvested and preserved by Ziyu.
As for the Enlightenment Tea Tree, it had grown several lengths taller, and all the Enlightenment Tea leaves it produced remained on the tree, ready to be picked at any time.
Over the course of an entire month, every spiritual root and immortal plant in the Five Elements Grotto-Heaven had their life essences greatly enhanced under the nourishment of sweet dew brimming with the power of life.
Some immortal plants with exceptional potential even showed hope of transforming into acquired spiritual roots.
When all the spiritual roots and immortal plants no longer absorbed the life force contained in the sweet dew, Yellow Dragon stopped maintaining the divine ability. The rest would be left to time; whether they succeeded or not was of no great consequence.
Having settled everything within the grotto-heaven, he decided to visit Xuandu first.
Deep within Kunlun Mountain, on a small mountain beside the Three Pure Ones Peak, Xuandu's Daoist grounds were exceedingly simple: an old pine tree, a small stone hut, and a spring bubbling with spiritual energy. Xuandu, dressed in a snow-white Daoist robe, sat beside the spring and gazed at the Three Pure Ones Peak, where the Three Pure Ones were in seclusion. A jade pot and two jade cups sat beside him.
The laws of the Great Dao rose and fell around Xuandu, and his cultivation was increasing rapidly. He was now at the peak of Profound Immortal, only one step away from Golden Immortal.
A flash of golden light pierced through the clouds at the horizon, and Yellow Dragon descended.
"Ha! Senior Brother Yellow Dragon, you finally decided to come out?" Xuandu raised his head, not surprised in the slightest. Instead, he smiled and teased him as he picked up the jade pot to pour tea. A tea fragrance tinged with bitterness wafted out. "Senior Brother truly is diligent. Ever since arriving at Kunlun, you have remained in seclusion cultivating, leaving Xuandu ashamed of himself."
As he spoke, he placed a teacup before Yellow Dragon. "Please, Senior Brother, have some of my humble tea. Its flavor is quite fine."
Yellow Dragon did not stand on ceremony. He sat on the stone stool opposite Xuandu and lifted the cup. It was warm and smooth to the touch. The tea was bitter at first, then sweet.
"Fine tea," Yellow Dragon praised.
Setting down the cup, he said, "Xuandu, after not seeing each other for over a hundred years, has your cultivation risen—and has your tongue grown sharper too?"
Yellow Dragon looked at Xuandu and sighed. "In just a little over a hundred years, you have reached the peak of Profound Immortal. You are only one step away from catching up with me. Just thinking about it makes this dragon unhappy. I cultivated bitterly for over a hundred thousand years, yet I have not achieved as much as you did in a mere hundred years."
Xuandu's smile faded slightly. He took a sip of tea and looked toward the distant mountains. "Junior Brother has the shade of a great tree to lean beneath, while Senior Brother built everything from bare hands. Junior Brother is still far behind."
Xuandu gave a chuckle and said no more. He poured out the tea leaves from the pot and said to Yellow Dragon, "Senior Brother, I have drunk your bitter tea. Hurry and bring out your Enlightenment Tea. I have not tasted it in over a hundred years—I have missed it terribly."
Looking at the teapot Xuandu held out, Yellow Dragon helplessly shook his head. He took out a jade box, opened its lid, pinched three tea leaves from the top, and placed them in the teapot. He then handed the pot back to Xuandu for him to boil water and make the tea. Seeing Xuandu's eyes still fixed straight on the jade box in his hands, Yellow Dragon smiled helplessly and tossed the box over. Xuandu hurriedly caught it.
"Many thanks, Senior Brother."
Xuandu brewed the tea anew and refilled Yellow Dragon's cup. Facing the spring and old pine, the two drank Enlightenment Tea and spoke of the changes in Kunlun, of their respective thoughts on cultivation. Xuandu's words cut straight to the heart of the matter; Yellow Dragon spoke little, but always struck the nail on the head. Time passed without their noticing.
Yellow Dragon bade Xuandu farewell and returned to his own Daoist grounds, traveling back and forth each day between the Five Elements Grotto-Heaven and the Mysterious Yellow World Pearl.
On the day the Dao discussion among the Three Pure Ones' disciples arrived, Yellow Dragon instructed Ziyu to watch over the home, then rode an auspicious cloud toward South Pole Immortal Elder's Daoist grounds.
