History
Creation and the First Tribes
Nuwa created humanity from kneaded earth. Humans were born with Dao bodies but lacked innate divine abilities, leaving them vulnerable to the Primordial World’s beasts. Entrusted with their protection, Yellow Dragon sheltered and guided the first communities along the East Sea 9 231.
Suiren learned to kindle fire by drilling wood, Ziyi developed woven clothing, and Youchao built shelters by observing animals. Once their inventions spread throughout the race, all three received vast heavenly merit and became its revered ancestors 9.
The Golden Core Dao
The Grand Pure Dao Venerable lived in the Suiren Tribe as an elderly healer, while Yellow Dragon taught medicinal-herb identification and preparation. Yellow Dragon’s observation that humans were intelligent but physically frail and lacked a cultivation path prompted the Dao Venerable to create a method suited to them 12.
Supreme Pure taught the Golden Core Dao, accepted Xuandu as his disciple, and established the Humanity Sect. Human leaders spread the method among coastal tribes over the following decades. The sect’s establishment redirected thirty percent of human destiny to Supreme Pure; he reassured Yellow Dragon that Nuwa had permitted his entry into human territory 13.
Southern Migration and Witch-Human Integration
An early population near Mount Shouyang suffered catastrophic losses during the Ten Golden Crows’ disaster: several million humans were reduced to several thousand survivors sheltered in naturally protected caves. Yellow Dragon declined excessive intervention, believing they should emerge and rebuild when the land recovered 231.
Later, the Three Ancestors arranged for Xuandu to take half the Human Race south. Although the region’s spiritual energy was poorer than that of the East Sea, fewer powerful rivals made it safer for ordinary humans. Yellow Dragon subsequently found roughly a million people living in dozens of riverside settlements there 260 278.
The Human Path of reincarnation opened rebirth into humanity to the spirits of other beings. Meanwhile, the Witch Race sought a future through cooperation and intermarriage with humans. Over more than one hundred thousand years, mixed descendants became important tribal warriors while continuing to identify themselves as human 299 304 355.
The Witch-Slaying Sword Massacres
Bai Ze discovered that human blood and souls could grant demons the ability to tear through Witch Race bodies. Di Jun authorized a secret operation against humanity, and disappearing border tribes were initially mistaken for migrants or victims of beasts. As the attacks widened, human investigators uncovered the Demon Race’s involvement and sought Witch Race protection 369 370.
The Heavenly Court collected human blood and souls for the Witch-Slaying Sword and rewarded the slaughter. Some demons also consumed those resources to purify their demon qi and advance. Tribulation aura obscured divination, delaying the Three Ancestors’ understanding and leaving Yellow Dragon unaware of the crisis 372 373 375.
Youchao and Ziyi detonated themselves and their merit treasures against the attacking Great Luo demons, while Suiren burned two opponents with his kindling flame. Witch forces arrived to protect survivors, Yellow Dragon confronted Eastern Emperor Taiyi, and Zhenyuanzi secretly rescued entire tribes. Xuandu pleaded with Supreme Pure to save humanity 379 380 382 384.
Rebuilding at Mount Shouyang
After the Witch-Demon Calamity, Yellow Dragon and Xuandu returned Zhenyuanzi’s rescued humans to Mount Shouyang. The survivors reunited their fortune, but the loss of powerful cultivators and teachers left humanity exposed. Suishan managed the Ancestral Land, while Lieshan led settlers outward to create living space and keep danger away from the homeland 432 433 434.
Scattered communities survived through tools, cooperative hunting, animal domestication, and occasional trade with peaceful neighbors. Cultivation remained difficult: the Golden Core Method demanded exceptional aptitude, and humans nourished by acquired spiritual energy struggled to understand it 434.
Fuxi’s Unification
Fuxi’s repeated human reincarnations gradually transferred his innate divine and Demon Race fortune into humanity. In his culminating life, he developed written records, marriage ceremonies, rites and music, and organized ancestor worship. The Huaxu Tribe became a center of learning whose practices spread through visiting tribal envoys 465 477 478.
Fuxi recovered lost territory and was invited to Mount Shouyang as the race’s co-ruler. His Qi Refining Art subsequently opened cultivation to ordinary people. After taking control of human destiny through the Kongtong Seal, he declared himself Human Emperor before billions of humans; the Three Ancestors endorsed him 479 481 511 512 513.
Shennong’s Reforms and Expansion
Hong Yun became fully human through repeated reincarnations and was born into the Lieshan Tribe. As Lieshan, the future Shennong initially misunderstood ordinary human life because of his privileged upbringing. Yellow Dragon sent him to experience a remote tribe’s poverty, disease, and vulnerability without access to his cultivation 541 544 545.
Shennong identified the five grains, taught farming, developed agricultural tools, and compiled the Classic of Materia Medica. His reforms did not benefit every region equally: plains tribes wasted surplus grain, while mountain and forest communities lacked farmland or failed to use valuable herbs. Yellow Dragon’s investigation exposed these disparities 550 569.
After becoming Sub-Saint, Shennong oversaw expansion in four directions. Human territory doubled, scholars named the four great continents, and new settlements reached the East Sea, Kunlun, Longevity Mountain, and the north. He established inheritable medical and pill-refining traditions and distributed basic Interception Sect teachings 574 576.
Renewed Tribulation and Xuanyuan’s Reign
Following Shennong’s departure from active leadership, a demon-corrupted Nine Infants devoured the human population of Northern Kuru. Neighboring races then seized human lands while prayers received no answer beyond the Three Ancestors. Only two active Great Luo cultivators remained to oppose more than a dozen enemies of that level 579.
Xuanyuan and Chiyou emerged as defenders. Human Great Luo protectors sacrificed themselves for Xuanyuan, while Houtu and Xingtian intervened for Chiyou. Kunpeng then encouraged neighboring races to practice the Demon Core Method and hunt humans to cleanse its corrupting effects. The plan eventually undermined itself as its practitioners devoured one another, leaving territory open for human recovery 581 582 583 584 585.
Xuanyuan and Chiyou’s parallel campaigns eliminated hostile factions between human territories and unified Southern Jambu Continent. Xuanyuan targeted peoples responsible for harming humans; Chiyou attacked every being carrying demonic aura. Both stopped short of entering Northern Kuru, where Demon Saints would intervene 606.
Under Xuanyuan, administration, cultivation, and military organization became orderly and ordinary people lived in peace. At the end of his reign, he protected the Ancestral Land with a shield of human fortune, accepted the sages’ decree to step down, and made a final tour before entering Fire Cloud Cave 609 622.
Racial Traits and Abilities
Physiology and Adaptability
Humans combine natural intelligence and rapid reproduction with weaker bodies and cultivation aptitude than many Primordial races 278 304.
- Born with Dao bodies, but without innate divine abilities 231.
- Can flourish in regions with sparse spiritual energy when water, prey, vegetation, and safety are available 278.
- Compensate for physical weakness through tools, teamwork, domesticated animals, and learned cultivation 434.
- Ordinary communities remain vulnerable to beasts, venomous insects, injuries, and even common illnesses 545.
Cultivation Paths
| Tradition | Applications | Limits |
|---|---|---|
| Golden Core Dao | Refines Essence, Qi, and Spirit into a golden core; offers a path toward Golden Immortality 12 13. | Exceptional aptitude is required in practice. Later generations struggle without teachers and innate spiritual conditions 434. |
| Witch body-tempering arts | Strengthens sinews, bones, blood, and qi; provides an alternative for humans unsuited to Golden Core cultivation 355. | Witch-Human descendants possess advantages ordinary humans do not fully share 355. |
| Qi Refining Art | Fuxi’s four-realm method gives ordinary humans access to cultivation and improves strength, speed, endurance, and combat power 481. | True Immortal breakthroughs require Innate Spiritual Energy, supplied through pills or spiritual veins 481. |
| Interception Sect teachings | Shennong establishes instructors and introduces basic methods across the four regions 576. | Most humans make only modest progress, though the teaching creates a lasting cultivation tradition 576. |
Witch-Human Inheritance
- Mixed descendants possess Primordial Spirits and can cultivate Witch Race methods 355.
- Their lifespans exceed ordinary humans’, while reproduction is easier than among pure-blooded witches 355.
- Some inherit a degree of control over the world’s Killing Intent 355.
- Their body-tempering cultivation produces combat strength above ordinary humans of the same realm 355.
Blood and Soul Properties
- Human flesh, blood, and souls have a powerful restraining effect against Witch Race bodies when incorporated into demonic attacks 369.
- The Demon Race exploits this property to forge the Witch-Slaying Sword; harming Ancestral Witches requires vast quantities of human blood and souls 370 389.
- Human blood and souls can cleanse the madness and resentment accumulated through the Demon Core Method, making humanity a target for its practitioners 584 585.
Collective Fortune
Human fortune gathers from individuals and tribes, flows through worshipped statues, and empowers the race’s sovereign 482.
- Population growth, territorial expansion, unity, and increasing strength reinforce it 482.
- Sustained mass deaths weaken it and make the race more vulnerable to calamity 372.
- A sovereign bound to human fortune advances as the race prospers; Fuxi fully controls its destiny through the Kongtong Seal 474 511.
- The Three Ancestors’ lingering spirits can draw Great Luo strength from it within the Ancestral Land, but lack that power outside its borders 579.
- It forms a protective shield and transforms Xuanyuan’s departure bridge into a route for his final tour 622.
Culture and Institutions
- Foundational crafts: Fire-making, woven clothing, and shelter-building originate with the Three Ancestors 9.
- Written records: Fuxi replaces reliance on knotted cords with writing that preserves knowledge, experiences, and commands 477 478 512.

- Worship: Tribal shrines honor Nuwa, Supreme Pure, Yellow Dragon, Suiren, Youchao, and Ziyi as humanity’s six most revered benefactors 512.
- Witch-influenced traditions: Some tribes add Witch figures to their totems and teach stories of Kua Fu chasing the sun, Houyi shooting the suns, and Chang’e flying to the moon 355.
- Medicine and pill refinement: Shennong expands the Classic of Materia Medica with tens of thousands of prescriptions and adapts pill formulas to ordinary ingredients 576.
- Imperial government: Xuanyuan organizes administration, cultivation traditions, and armies into a stable system; Jiuli retains comparatively primitive governance under its elders 609.
