Background / History

Raditz was originally a low-class Saiyan serving under Vegeta and the Frieza Force. When Goku sensed their bloodline connection, he found Raditz on the vegetation planet K-89, where Raditz was carrying out a low-profit assignment and resented Vegeta for assigning him such work. At the time, his knee-length hair was matted with mud and his battle armor was badly damaged. 37

Goku brought Raditz aboard the Water Drop Ship and defeated him in the Gravity Chamber. Goku then revealed that Frieza—not a meteor—had destroyed Planet Vegeta and exposed the Saiyans' exploitation under Frieza's rule. Shaken by the truth, his inferiority toward Vegeta, and Goku's overwhelming strength, Raditz asked Goku to train him. 38
