Background / History

Piccolo is born from the demonic egg expelled by Piccolo Daimao shortly before the latter's death. Emerging in a wilderness canyon as a green-skinned child with antennae, he inherits all of his father's memories and dedicates himself to avenging him against Son Goku. He initially uses fear, grief, and hatred as fuel for increasingly intense training. 24 25 27

While training alone in the northwestern wasteland, Piccolo is repeatedly defeated by a masked fighter calling himself Afei. The encounters are deliberately structured as harsh instruction: Piccolo is forced to develop dense internal ki circulation for defense, discovers his Giant Form, and learns that his Namekian heritage and incomplete nature are central to his potential. Afei directs him toward Kami's Lookout and the Dragon Balls. 42 43

After two and a half years of training, Piccolo follows that path. Kami grants his request to unlock his potential through the Dragon Balls, after which the two merge. Piccolo becomes a Super Namekian, inherits Kami's will, and assumes the role of Earth's Guardian. 61

Piccolo later learns that Afei was Son Goku all along. The revelation shatters the revenge-driven purpose behind his training, but his rivalry with Goku remains a major source of pride and motivation. 68 69

Piccolo begins as fiercely prideful, solitary, and consumed by inherited hatred for Son Goku. Even after realizing how far below Goku he is, he refuses to accept weakness and pursues power with ascetic determination. 42 61
