Neji was born into the Hyuga branch family and received the Caged Bird curse mark at the age of three. The seal defined his childhood as a system of enforced subservience to the main family. His father, Hizashi Hyuga, died as a substitute sacrifice to preserve the clan's political arrangements, leaving Neji with lasting anger toward the Hyuga system. 31 59

At Hokage Rock following the Academy graduation, Qianyu revealed both the Byakugan and Sharingan to Neji and argued that the Caged Bird was only a technique, not an unbreakable fate. Qianyu promised to remove or weaken the seal within three years, rekindling Neji's hope. 31

Neji is initially quiet, guarded, and deeply burdened by the idea that his fate was predetermined by the Caged Bird. He is highly disciplined, channeling his resentment into relentless Gentle Fist training rather than open complaint. 31 33

His defeat by Naruto becomes a turning point. Rather than allowing it to break his resolve, Neji recognizes that Naruto's growth proves fate can be changed and vows to destroy the Caged Bird's hold over him. 39
