Background / History

As a child, she defended her friend Lin Meijing from a boy who bullied her, knocking him down with a punch. Lin recalls that Yinyin was tougher than the boys but acted because she could not tolerate boys using their strength to bully girls. 107

Personality

Yinyin is forthright, proud, and deeply protective of Eastern Martial Arts Hall's honor. When Pei Shao's remarks diminish her abilities and the hall's martial arts, she publicly challenges him rather than allowing others to settle the matter for her. 26 27

She takes promises seriously. Although she does not initially regard Pei Shao's unconventional fighting as legitimate martial arts, she honors her wager after the match and asks to become his disciple. 34

Outside the training hall, Yinyin is independent and practical: she declines expensive meals and taxis in favor of the hall's food and public transportation. She is also decisive when confronting harassment, disabling a lecherous passenger with a stomp before calmly resuming her conversation. 35

Her growing attachment to Pei Shao makes her vulnerable to jealousy and misunderstandings. However, she repeatedly reflects on her mistakes, confronts those who misled her, and makes sincere efforts to apologize. 89 92 93
