Appearance
Wang Zifei is a young woman with long, jet-black hair, often pinned behind her head. During her first encounter with Pei Shao, she wore a pink diamond-patterned knit dress and a red silk scarf; later, she is described in white clothing with her long hair falling over her forehead. 64 113
- Long black hair, sometimes disheveled when flustered. 64 65
- Often blushes visibly when embarrassed. 105 113
- Has a neat, well-dressed appearance when meeting Pei Shao after the kidnapping. 112
Personality
Wang Zifei is intensely proud of her deductive abilities and has dreamed since childhood of becoming a renowned detective. Her enthusiasm comes from years of reading detective manga, novels, films, and television dramas, despite her parents directing her toward economics and finance instead. 63
Her confidence is undermined by inexperience. She panics easily during undercover work, reads innocent behavior as evidence of guilt, and repeatedly lets her preconceived image of Pei Shao as a criminal shape her conclusions. 64 65 105 108 Even so, she is courageous: she continues investigating the Five Star Street robbery despite believing it may expose her to danger. 104 108
After learning that Cui Jianhao manipulated her and that Pei Shao rescued her from Liu Dachuan, Wang Zifei becomes more humble. She apologizes for her misjudgments, supports Pei Shao during later misunderstandings, and persistently asks to become his disciple. 112 113 123
Abilities & Skills
Deductive Investigation
Wang Zifei actively investigates the Five Star Street robbery and ultimately connects Liu Dachuan to the crime through inconsistencies in his behavior and the evidence surrounding Elderly Park. 109 112
- Photographs footprints and collects a soil sample while tracing Pei Shao's route through Elderly Park. 104
- Researches archived newspapers at the city library to compare reports on the robbery. 109
- Notices that the reported number of robbers and recovered weapons do not match, including the missing handgun. 109
- Identifies Liu Dachuan as suspicious after he accidentally addresses her by her real surname despite her altered press pass. 112
- Deduces that Liu had access to the flowerbed where the missing gun was buried and that he likely supplied information to the robbers. 112
- Limit: Her early deductions are heavily distorted by suspicion, causing her to falsely accuse Pei Shao of robbery and other crimes. 63 65 105 108
Determination
Once Wang Zifei believes she has found a case, she commits herself fully to it, even sacrificing comfort and disregarding risk. 63 109
- Pays for access to restricted newspaper archives rather than seeking help from her unsupportive family. 109
- Invites Dongfang Yinyin to accompany her when she recognizes that investigating alone may be dangerous. 108
- Refuses to abandon the Five Star Street case even after evidence challenges her original theory about Pei Shao. 109 110
History
Cui Jianhao, Zhang Huaiyuan, and A Zheng exploit Wang Zifei's ambition to become a detective by feeding her a false claim that Pei Shao was the martial-arts-trained leader of the Five Star Street bank robbery. Eager to prove that her deductive knowledge is more than book learning, she goes to Expert Bar to investigate him. 62 63
Her first encounter with Pei Shao becomes a series of misunderstandings. She accidentally reveals that she knows his name, interprets his attention toward Castle's suspected signals as lecherous behavior, and drinks herself unconscious while trying to question him. 64 65 66 Her suspicion deepens after she sees Pei Shao climbing over the martial arts hall wall bare-chested and mistakes his unusual behavior for evidence of criminal activity. 104 105
Wang Zifei later conducts a more substantive investigation into the robbery. She discovers discrepancies between Cui Jianhao's account and archived reports, then follows the missing-gun evidence to Elderly Park. While investigating Liu Dachuan at the bank with Dongfang Yinyin, she recognizes that he knows her identity despite her forged press pass and deduces that he was connected to the robbers. 109 112
Liu kidnaps Wang Zifei and Dongfang Yinyin after their investigation draws too close to the truth. Pei Shao locates the warehouse through Castle and rescues both women. The ordeal forces Wang Zifei to acknowledge that she had judged him unfairly; she apologizes and later asks him to accept her as a disciple. 111 112 113
