Then Let's Go Crazy
No one could understand Hong Mo's complicated feelings at that moment. There was the joy of surviving a brush with death, and also fear of that instant just now.
Judging by the dent between his brows, Hong Mo had indeed narrowly escaped death, dodging the bullet at the very last moment. The bullet had not pierced his skull; it had merely grazed past the center of his forehead, leaving behind a deep mark.
Blood seeped into his eyes, tinting everything Hong Mo saw with a faint shade of red. This was the color of blood.
Hong Mo laughed twice, rose to his feet, and faced the others again.
At first, Hong Mo had wondered why this young master from Beijing had not called in the armed police to surround the place and simply trap him and Mu Siyu like dumplings in a pot. So that was it—confidence in his own strength.
Hong Mo understood it very well, truly very well. Ever since gaining his superpower, he too had possessed that lofty confidence, the belief that he could face anything.
"You really have a tough life. You're still not dead," Mao Shaohui said teasingly as he watched Hong Mo get back up.
"..."
Hong Mo did not answer. He studied Mao Shaohui closely. What exactly had been the principle behind that shot just now? Was the gun powerful, or was it some kind of superpower?
"Kinetic Empowerment!" Mao Shaohui suddenly said.
"?"
"The power of a bullet comes entirely from kinetic energy. Or rather, the power of physical attacks all comes from kinetic energy. And I can convert the energy in my body into kinetic energy and empower anything I touch with it." As he spoke, Mao Shaohui lightly kicked a rock in front of him.
The soccer-ball-sized rock shot into the air at tremendous speed from Mao Shaohui's gentle kick, then smashed violently into the wall and exploded into countless fragments.
He understood!
That was why that utterly ordinary shot had carried such terrifying power. Perhaps the handgun really had been specially made, but its power had not exceeded the limits of technology. It had been so powerful solely because Mao Shaohui had empowered the bullet with additional kinetic energy.
But wasn't he being a little too confident, explaining the principles of his superpower to an enemy just like that?
Hong Mo took a deep breath. Electric currents coursed over the surface of his body, slowly stretching out from his shoulder blades and forming a pair of abstract wings.
"Still planning to resist? Looks like you haven't given up yet." Mao Shaohui tilted his head as he watched Hong Mo's movements.
When Mao Shaohui had first awakened his superpower, he had been deeply disappointed. After all, his ability was far too inconspicuous. It had neither the splendor of energy-type powers nor the awe-inspiring presence of matter-manipulation abilities.
But now, Mao Shaohui was incomparably satisfied with his superpower. Even the strongest expert among China's current superpower organizations was not confident of taking a single ordinary bullet empowered with his kinetic energy. To that end, he had specially trained in firearms, as well as gun-fu.
Another identical handgun slid into Mao Shaohui's left hand. It seemed he was about to get serious.
In the distance, a thunderous explosion suddenly erupted from the battlefield between Mu Siyu and the dejected man. With the two of them at the center, blazing flames rose up on one side, while countless ice pillars and ice spikes several meters tall instantly condensed on the other.
The moment the explosion rang out, Hong Mo licked the blood from the corner of his mouth and began moving at high speed.
Several kilometers from the police station, countless armed police and officers had completely surrounded the area. Everyone inside had already been evacuated.
"Old Zhang, do you know what this mission is about? Why are so many armed police surrounding our station?" An ordinary neighborhood officer lit a cigarette and asked a better-informed teammate beside him.
"To be honest, I'm not too sure either. I only know the order came down suddenly from above. It seems to be related to what happened at Mountain Orange University a few days ago." Old Zhang took the cigarette his colleague offered and took a drag.
"Mountain Orange University? You mean the murder of the mayor's son?"
"Who knows? The world has suddenly gone completely fucking mad. An entire university got frozen over for a radius of five kilometers. What the fuck is this? This is Mountain Orange City—we're talking temperatures above thirty degrees right now." The policeman named Old Zhang complained as he smoked.
"I heard the ice at the center of the school still hasn't melted. They haven't even recovered some of the frozen students' bodies yet. That ice is unbelievably hard—even heavy machinery can't break it." Another officer nearby joined in after hearing their conversation.
"Exactly. Good thing my daughter said Mountain Orange University was too close and too familiar, so she applied to Sea University instead." A middle-aged officer beside them looked immensely relieved.
Just then, a violent blast came from the center of the police station, and the entire ground trembled faintly. It was as though a missile had suddenly been thrown inside.
"What happened?" Countless people turned their eyes toward the station.
Several senior officers at the police station knew some of what was going on. They stared at the center of the explosion in shock. Were those still people? This had already gone beyond the realm of humanity.
At this point, both battles had entered their fierce stages. They were no longer the tentative attacks from before. Electric currents surrounded Hong Mo's entire body, and propelled by the current wings behind him, he accelerated continuously.
A quick battle, a quick decision!
That was Hong Mo's plan. With Mao Shaohui eyeing him like a tiger from the side, he had to be extremely careful whether attacking or defending, afraid that Mao Shaohui would take a hidden shot at him.
Dragged forward by the electric current, Hong Mo's figure had already surpassed the limits of ordinary human vision. All that could be seen was a dazzling ball of white light, trailing a long afterimage as it twisted through the air and charged toward Mao Shaohui.
Die!
Hong Mo's five right fingers curled into a claw. Having accumulated too much current, the blazing electric light had already begun to slightly warp the air.
Bang! Bang bang bang!
Hong Mo's body twisted in midair as several shots rang out in succession, and two blooms of blood burst from his waist. Hong Mo had already made up his mind: even if he had to stake his life on it, he would take Mao Shaohui down with him.
He continued clawing toward Mao Shaohui without slowing down. It was easy to imagine that if Mao Shaohui failed to evade, this mass of violent power would tear him into pieces.
Whoosh~~!
Just as Hong Mo's right hand was about to seize Mao Shaohui's head, Mao Shaohui seemed to teleport, vanishing backward by a meter. Hong Mo's heart gave a violent leap as electric current gathered in his left hand, ready to strike.
Sure enough, the moment Mao Shaohui retreated, the golden handgun in his left hand rose.
Bang!
In that split second, Hong Mo swept out with his left hand. Agonizing pain shot through it. Blood and severed fingers sprayed everywhere near the muzzle, while Mao Shaohui's golden handgun spun as it flew into the air.
Hong Mo's entire left palm had vanished, with only his little finger still hanging on by a strip of flesh. Yet Hong Mo seemed not to feel a thing. He let out a furious roar and continued reaching for Mao Shaohui, who was right in front of him, with his right hand.
"Roar!"
Hong Mo roared furiously at Mao Shaohui before him, and massive sound waves spread in all directions, sending ripples through the surrounding air.
Mao Shaohui might have been formidable, but he was still a pampered young master from the capital. How could he have ever encountered a lunatic like Hong Mo, someone willing to risk his life? The instant Hong Mo's roar erupted, Mao Shaohui's body paused unnaturally.
Just once. Briefly—but it was enough.
In that instant, Hong Mo's right hand raked across Mao Shaohui's chest. With a tearing sound, blood and chunks of flesh sprayed through the air.
"Ahhh—!!!" Mao Shaohui let out a miserable scream.
Hong Mo had originally intended to tear straight through Mao Shaohui's heart, but at the final moment, the man vanished backward as if teleporting, reappearing a meter away.
Even so, Mao Shaohui was in terrible shape. A huge chunk of his chest had vanished, exposing his violently beating heart and writhing muscles through the wound. With every beat of his heart, torrents of blood poured out as though it cost nothing.
With a thunderous rumble, a solid stone wall rose between Hong Mo and Mao Shaohui, blocking Hong Mo's pursuing right hand.
