Background / History
Director Su taught at Notting Academy when Qi Mingyuan and Wang Rou were students. Delighted to see his former students again, he personally escorted their son Qi Dao to the dormitory when the boy enrolled. 4
He later intervened alongside Headmaster Hans after Qi Dao severely wounded Xiao Haijie. Director Su ordered the students involved to wait in his office, promised to support Xiao Chenyu's group if they had not instigated the conflict, and personally examined Xiao Haijie's injury before administering soul power. 8
At the infirmary, he sharply rebuked Xiao Haijie when the boy dismissed Qi Dao's victory as luck. Hans also reprimanded Xiao Haijie for bullying younger students and threatened to notify his father. 9 Director Su later watched Qi Dao's wagered rematch with Xiao Haijie. Beforehand, he and Hans both predicted that Qi Dao would win, despite Yu Xiaogang's contrary assessment. After the match, Director Su praised Qi Dao's improved control but warned that his potentially lethal swordsmanship must not be used in future academy spars. 13 14
News of Qi Dao reaching Rank 10 later reached Director Su and Hans. 19
Personality
Director Su is stern about academy order and student misconduct. He responds decisively to violent incidents, but distinguishes aggressors from students acting in self-defense. He believes the academy should teach students how to conduct themselves as well as impart knowledge about soul masters. 8 9
He is also attentive to student safety. Rather than treating Qi Dao's overexertion as a disciplinary matter, he helped ensure the boy received medical attention. Although impressed by Qi Dao's victories, he feared a failure of control could cause a fatal injury and insisted on restrictions during sparring. 8 14
Director Su shows confidence in Qi Dao's ability to defy expectations. He was pleased when Qi Dao rejected Yu Xiaogang's later attempt to take him as a nominal disciple; despite addressing Yu respectfully in person, Su did not privately regard him as a true “Master.” 13
