Xiao Chenyu first approaches Qi Dao intending to recruit him as an adviser or lackey under his protection. After Qi Dao refuses, Xiao accepts his challenge for the first-year boss position, confident that his Wolf martial soul and innate level-three soul power ensure victory. 4

Qi Dao evades Xiao Chenyu's charge and leaves a deliberately shallow sword wound from shoulder blade to waist. Xiao Chenyu admits defeat, though he initially insists that greater caution would have changed the result. He ultimately yields the first-year boss position to Qi Dao. 5

Loyalty to Qi Dao

After the duel, Xiao Chenyu thanks Qi Dao for sparing him and formally recognizes him as boss. When Xiao Haijie attacks Qi Dao, Xiao Chenyu feels responsible for involving him and joins Liu Long and Ling Feng in supporting him. 6 7
