Background / History

Notting Academy enrolled Qi Dao two months after his martial soul awakening. Headmaster Hans personally received Qi Dao's parents—both former students of the academy—and reviewed Qi Dao's awakening certificate during registration 2.

Hans initially attempted to introduce Qi Dao to the academy's guest adviser, Yu Xiaogang, because both had experienced malignant martial-soul mutations. Yu Xiaogang refused to accept Qi Dao after learning that his innate soul power was only half a level 3.

Qi Dao rapidly became one of the academy's most prominent students. After defeating Xiao Chenyu, he became the first-year dormitory boss; after severely injuring sixth-year Xiao Haijie in a challenge, Hans and Director Su intervened and disciplined the upperclassmen for bullying younger students 5 8.

Over the following years, Qi Dao remained associated with the academy despite studying largely independently. He used the library, lived in a separate teacher's dormitory, and occasionally taught theoretical knowledge and practical combat techniques to other students 18.

After reaching Level 20, Qi Dao requested early graduation to seek the Heaven Dou Crown Prince's patronage and a suitable second soul ring. Hans supported the decision with a letter of introduction to an Earl in Heaven Dou City, while the academy's teachers and students gathered to see Qi Dao off 26.

Campus Life and Facilities

• Dormitories — Non-work-study students of all grades live together, with roughly forty to fifty students per dormitory. Work-study students live separately 4.
• Classrooms — Lower grades primarily receive theoretical instruction on martial souls, soul power, and soul beasts; afternoon sessions are reserved for supervised meditation and cultivation 11.
• Library — Available to students seeking additional theoretical knowledge. Qi Dao regularly used it for independent study 11 18.
• Infirmary — Staffed by Teacher Wang, a Level 22 auxiliary-system Grand Soul Master. His first soul skill heals injuries, while his second restores soul power 9.
• Cafeteria — Has a second floor serving more expensive food, including nutritious soul beast meat 10.
• Back mountain — Used by students for extra training and public duels 12 13.

Administration and Staff

• Headmaster Hans — Headmaster who supports promising students and maintains discipline. He refused Yu Xiaogang's request to treat Qi Dao as a research subject, later wrote Qi Dao a letter of introduction for Heaven Dou City, and approved his early graduation 11 26.
• Director Su — Long-serving academy director and an acquaintance of Qi Dao's parents from their student days. He personally escorted Qi Dao to his dormitory and handled the disciplinary response to Xiao Haijie's bullying incident 4 8.
• Yu Xiaogang — Hans's friend and a guest adviser rather than an academy teacher. He initially rejected Qi Dao, later attempted to recruit him as a registered disciple for martial-soul research, and eventually accepted Tang San as his disciple 3 12 19.
• Teacher Wang — Infirmary teacher whose blue-flower martial soul provides healing and soul-power restoration 9.
• First-year teacher — A former Notting Academy student who teaches basic theory. He offered Qi Dao his personal study notes after Qi Dao helped keep the classroom orderly 11.

Notable Students

• Qi Dao — Entered with a malignantly mutated Iron Sword martial soul and half-level innate soul power. He became the academy's recognized boss, assisted with student discipline, taught fellow students, and graduated early at Level 20 2 18 26.
• Xiao Chenyu — Son of Notting City's lord and Qi Dao's first major rival. After losing to Qi Dao, he accepted him as boss and became one of his closest supporters 4 6.
• Xiao Haijie — Sixth-year student and Xiao Chenyu's elder brother. His bullying of younger students led to intervention by Hans and Director Su after Qi Dao defeated and seriously wounded him 7 8.
• Wang Sheng — Work-study student whom Qi Dao defended against prejudice from wealthier classmates. He later referred to Qi Dao as the academy's boss and his greatest benefactor 11 19.
• Tang San — Joined the academy alongside Xiao Wu several years after Qi Dao's enrollment and became Yu Xiaogang's disciple 19.
• Xiao Wu — Arrived with Tang San and challenged Qi Dao for his position as dormitory boss 22.

Relationships

• Notting City — The academy serves students from the city; the city lord's sons Xiao Chenyu and Xiao Haijie both attend it 4 7.
• Qi Dao — The academy becomes Qi Dao's primary place of study and the setting of his rise from first-year student to academy-wide boss 5 19.
