Bang!
"Bastard!!"
Baroque slammed his cup down and surged to his feet in fury.
Everyone in the room was startled.
Their boss's moods were far too unpredictable. None of them wanted to provoke him at a critical moment like this.
"M-My lord."
Before Baroque could speak, another underling burst in, holding up his phone.
"T-The Ninth Laboratory has sent the latest intelligence.
The test subject codenamed Andrew injured several people before taking the opportunity to escape.
Even the red crystal used in the experiment, the 'Killing Stone Fragment,' has disappeared."
Whoosh!
His figure vanished in an instant. Baroque seized the underling by the throat with his right hand, his face twisted with rage.
"What did you say?!"
"M-My lord."
Daring not to resist at all, the underling tremblingly held his phone out before Baroque.
"..."
Staring at the words on the screen, Baroque's anger flared. Without a care, he flung the underling to the floor.
Bang.
The underling clutched his waist and back, not daring to make a single sound of pain.
The atmosphere in the room grew increasingly grim. Everyone hurriedly moved with utmost care and held their breath, afraid of drawing Baroque's attention.
Baroque's chest rose and fell violently, his face shifting between green and pale.
After a long while, he finally gave an order in an icy tone.
"Tell Killer Bee that the problems at the Ninth Laboratory are entirely her responsibility.
If she can't resolve this trouble, I'll be sure to report it to Lord M. Bison!"
"Yes."
The underling accepted the order and left.
Convinced he had found a solution, Baroque ordered another cup of coffee and sat back down.
But before his seat had even warmed, the laboratory alarm suddenly began to blare.
Beep-beep-beep-beep-beep.
The underling who had left only moments ago came scrambling back in, panicked and practically crawling.
"L-Lord Baroque, th-there are intruders!"
"What?"
"Three men and two women. Five people in total."
"Hmph, just five people? They think they can break into this heavily guarded experimental base?"
Baroque flicked his hand dismissively, took a sip of coffee, and crossed one leg over the other.
The many researchers were equally unconcerned. Calmly, they packed their documents into silver cases and filed out of the room.
"B-But..."
Seeing that the underling still wanted to speak, Baroque set down his coffee heavily. As he brought up the laboratory surveillance feed, he scolded him.
"What are you panicking for? Useless trash!
The armed personnel will naturally suppress the intruders. When the time comes, leave one alive. I want to ask what their purpose is—"
"B-But, my lord."
Behind him, the underling wore a tearful expression and trembled all over.
"The armed personnel sent to suppress the intruders have already been completely wiped out!!"
At the exact moment those words left his mouth, the surveillance feed finally came through.
In the footage, three men and two women advanced without resistance, sweeping everything before them.
Smack.
"Impossible!!"
Baroque slapped both hands onto the table, his eyes wide as he shot to his feet in shock.
Behind those intruders lay not only the armed personnel, but even several controlled monsters!
Meanwhile.
Luke Cage took point at the front.
On the left and right flanks, Jessica Jones and Matt Murdock stood ready to provide support at any moment.
Chun-Li acted as the spearhead, weaving back and forth.
Frank stayed at the very rear of the team, responsible for tactical coordination and long-range support.
The five-person squad had clear roles, their momentum unstoppable as they continued pushing forward.
That previous group of heavily armed security personnel had not even made a ripple against the five's practiced coordination before being completely wiped out. GG.
After that, they encountered another wave of monsters. The creatures charged in howling, then went flying out howling, departing in remarkable peace.
The piercing alarm echoed endlessly through the corridor.
Suddenly, Matt's ears twitched, and he sensed something unsettling.
"Wait."
Before the warning had even faded, the wall on the left suddenly exploded.
Thud—!
A hideous monster, its body packed with muscle and its face grotesquely twisted, burst out with a roar!
Its appearance was terrifying. Its head resembled a split-open flower, with disgusting slime constantly dripping down from it.
Its hands and feet were even stranger, as though its palms and soles had been removed and four huge, razor-sharp cleavers had been forcibly embedded into its bones.
"ROAR ROAR ROAR!!!"
It bellowed wildly, cutting the team in two from the middle.
Bang!
Frank fired a shot, drawing the monster's attention.
Retreating as he did, he shouted to the others, "Matt, Chun-Li, Jessica, Luke. Go! Leave this monster to me!"
The moment she heard that, Jessica immediately turned around to rush back, only for Matt to grab her shoulder and stop her.
He gave Frank a deep look, then seized Jessica's arm and hurried forward with his head lowered.
"Matt!!"
Jessica shook off his hand and demanded angrily.
"Are you abandoning Frank?"
"No. I'm trusting him!"
Matt's answer was exceptionally resolute.
Especially at a time like this, they could not lose their composure. The fiercer the enemy's resistance, the more panicked they were inside.
Considering the possibility that Baroque might escape, they had to pick up the pace!
Even Luke, who had remained silent the whole time, turned back at the right moment.
"Jessica, do what we're supposed to do!"
"Hmph~"
Jessica snorted. It was not as though she was some unreasonable child.
She simply leaped into the air, shifted her flying posture, and instantly passed Matt and the other two.
The three behind her had no time to stop her. They could only watch helplessly as Jessica smashed headfirst through the iron door and charged inside.
The next second.
Jessica came rolling back out, flying backward.
Splat.
Her face hit the floor, and she rolled several times, ending up covered in dust and grime.
The moment she raised her head, she saw the shocked expressions on Matt and Luke's faces.

Inside the room.
The raised right leg slowly lowered.
Forcing himself to endure the stabbing pain in his leg, Baroque stubbornly said, "Hiss... Pathetic!"
The lackey beside him was sprawled on the floor. Hearing that, he immediately began eagerly flattering him.
"Lord Baroque is invincible!"
Ignoring the flattery, he swiftly took the silver briefcase filled with important documents from his underling.
Baroque's right leg trembled. Enduring the pain, he pulled a small knife from his person and handed it over.
In an oddly encouraging tone, he patted the underling on the shoulder.
"Do well. I have faith in you."
The underling flushed bright red from the pat, his whole body trembling with excitement. He could hardly wait to rush out and fight the attackers for three hundred rounds.
Hot-headed, he raised the knife high, just about to shout "Lord Baroque" to bolster his courage.
Then, from behind him, came a sudden series of mechanical clicks.
Huh?!
When he turned around in confusion, he saw Baroque standing inside a transparent cylindrical enclosure.
Seeing him look over, Baroque took two steps back onto the lift platform, gave him a hearty thumbs-up, then pointed behind him.
Shuddering all over, the underling turned around in disbelief, only to discover that the three intruders had already broken in and were eyeing him with ill intent.
