Background / History

Poseidon resides in the Sea God Palace of the Divine Realm, where he wields the Sea God's Trident. He had long received no news from Sea God Island and had grown bored with the passage of endless divine years. When Li Hanche's blood caused the Sea God's Heart to acknowledge him as master, Poseidon sensed it through the artifact's contractual link and observed him through a water mirror. 104

His examination found that Li Hanche possessed an exceptional physical body, a mental barrier stronger than that of an ordinary Soul Sage, and an unprecedented soul-ring configuration for a twelve-year-old. Determining that such talent could not be allowed to enter another god's inheritance, Poseidon concealed Li Hanche from other deities and moved to claim him as his successor. 104 105

Poseidon ordered Bo Saixi to locate Li Hanche in Heaven Dou City and bring him to Sea God Island for the Nine Trials, initially phrasing the command as an order to “tie him up.” He soon clarified that Li's potential must remain hidden from rival gods. 105

When Li resisted the summons and insulted both Poseidon and the Sea God's Heart, Poseidon descended through an incarnation of divine will rather than punish him. He personally offered Li the Sea God position, access to Sea God Island's hundred-thousand-year soul beasts and soul bones, and the authority to settle continental affairs after completing the trials. 113

Poseidon covertly evaded Asura God's suspicions about his intervention in the mortal realm. His concern was that Asura might discover Li Hanche and attempt to claim him as an inheritor. 122

Personality

Poseidon is outwardly majestic and proud of the Sea God inheritance, but his pursuit of Li Hanche reveals impatience, possessiveness, and a willingness to bend propriety. He orders Bo Saixi to abduct Li if necessary, adjusts rewards to accelerate Li's progress, and secretly hides him from rival gods. 105 113 166

He is unusually tolerant of Li's defiance. Although Li stomps on the Sea God's Heart and calls him an “old bastard,” Poseidon continues negotiating, tempting him with rewards rather than retaliating. 113

Poseidon is also opportunistic and protective of his chosen successor. He lies to Asura to conceal Li's existence, later seeks the Ice God's interest in Li, and hopes to see him become a dual-god inheritor. 122 178 209
