Hagrid was unleashing his full might on the open ground before the castle. It was no exaggeration to say that he alone had halted the Death Eaters' advance.
But as the Death Eaters from the flanks gathered here after the wooden bridge was blown up, the balance began to tip once more.
Inside the castle, Harry and Silvan hurried along a corridor together. The sounds around them were growing louder—running, shouting, as though they were right beside them. Whenever they passed a window, they could see flashes of brilliant magic outside on the grounds.
"Professor McGonagall just told me we need to find a way to deal with that snake!" Harry said anxiously, striding forward without a clue what to do. Every time he passed a window, he peered outside as hard as he could, trying to spot Voldemort and Nagini.
Disappointingly, although there were plenty of Death Eaters outside, Voldemort had yet to show himself, let alone Nagini, the Horcrux he had created.
"No, I can't find them—" Harry said, mechanically turning another corner into a different corridor.
"Did you see anything?"
Silvan shook his head.
Unlike Harry, he had not looked outside at all. He knew perfectly well that Voldemort would never let Nagini leave his sight at a time like this. Even if they found her, it would be useless.
Unless Voldemort believed he had already won, he would not let Nagini leave his sight and act alone—a kind of taunt from the victor.
And how could they make Voldemort think victory was certain? Perhaps when he personally killed Harry, the Chosen One. But definitely not now.
