Background

Hagrid attended Hogwarts and took Care of Magical Creatures under Professor Kettleburn before being expelled after raising the Acromantula Aragog in the castle. Although Aragog was the principal reason for his expulsion, Hagrid was also widely suspected of murdering Moaning Myrtle. Dumbledore believes the true culprit was the Basilisk, but lacked evidence sufficient to clear Hagrid with the Ministry at the time. 138 139

He remained at Hogwarts as Keeper of Keys and Grounds, continuing to care for dangerous creatures in and around the Forbidden Forest. After his name was cleared, Dumbledore celebrated both his vindication and his appointment as a professor by giving him Fire Crabs. 233 687
