Background

Lorroakan was formerly a member of Amn's Cowled Wizards. Backed by House Selemchant, he accumulated substantial wealth through magical inventions and investments, including permanently waterproofed clothing for which he collected patent fees 289. After reaching the sixth layer of the Weave and becoming a high mage, Amn's restrictions on magic increasingly obstructed his research. A private experiment was exposed; although he paid heavily to avoid harsher punishment, House Selemchant ultimately exiled him 289.

He chose Baldur's Gate over cities such as Waterdeep, which he considered too crowded with legendary figures and divine Chosen. Upon arrival, he rapidly established himself through wealth and connections, purchasing Sorcerous Sundries from the council and opening Lorroakan's Animal Boarding Center outside Basilisk Gate 289.

Lorroakan is a reasonably handsome man in his early thirties, with pale skin carrying an unhealthy pink tint and thick, smooth orange hair. He conspicuously displays both magical power and wealth.

Personality

Lorroakan is exceptionally ambitious, status-conscious, and arrogant. He sees a mage tower as the ultimate mark of arcane power and imagines himself eventually surpassing figures such as Elminster, Szass Tam, and Karsus 292 296.

His confidence regularly becomes self-defeating. He openly revealed his plan to use Ramazith's lover's corpse as the key to Ramazith's Tower while trying to impress Ailei, and later underestimated both the Flaming Fist and Marvin Rodhart 290 292 295.

He is also vain and romantically delusional. He interprets professional courtesy from Freya as attraction, assumes that Ailei must be controlled by Marvin, and views influential women primarily as possible marriage alliances or sources of political and financial advantage 291 295 319.

Despite his vanity, Lorroakan resists direct mental domination. When Baron Hunel attempted to make him serve Gargauth through the Shield of the Hidden Lord, Lorroakan's prior use of Resist Enchantment allowed him to retain his autonomy. He used wealth, political contacts, and the Ramazith Tower Management Committee to pursue the purchase, intending to solve the tower's riddle with the corpse of Ramazith's sea-spirit lover 289 291 292.

He attempted to restart the tower's dormant magic well and seize control by summoning water and air elementals during a thunderstorm. The Flaming Fist arrested him after Marvin's Karsus's Scroll of Foes provided a decisive advantage against his summons 292.

The confiscated sea-spirit body ultimately became useful to Marvin in studying and controlling the Sea Spirit Skull, making Lorroakan's failed scheme an unintended benefit to his rival 293.

Hunel Estate and Gargauth

Humiliated by his imprisonment and unable to recover the sea-spirit body, Lorroakan accepted Baron Hunel's invitation to the Knights of the Shield's hidden temple. He resisted Gargauth's projected mental influence, then decided to infiltrate the organization rather than submit to it 295 296.

He discovered part of the ritual circle intended to use Freya's divine power, but could not fully dismantle it. He fired Disintegrate at a core rune, hid, and later mistakenly concluded that he had personally destroyed Gargauth's scheme and rescued Freya 302.

The Flaming Fist arrested and interrogated him as a possible devil accomplice. After his release, he used the incident to publicly denounce the Flaming Fist and Grand Duke Ravengard 299 302.

Political Opposition in Baldur's Gate

With Marquis Bormul and the visiting Chosen of Tempus and Waukeen behind him, Lorroakan positioned himself as an advocate for Baldur's Gate's “safety” and a critic of Flaming Fist corruption. His actual aim was to weaken Ravengard's military authority and influence the coming ducal election 301 302.

His public stature grew after his elemental summons helped repel demons during the battle against Cyric's Chosen. Merchants and patriars began calling him a Hero of Baldur's Gate, further feeding his ambition 319.

Final Seizure and Death

Taking advantage of the chaos in Baldur's Gate, Lorroakan recruited tomb raiders (such as Mudworm) and utilized a covert breach to enter Ramazith's Tower after it was reactivated 392 393. Fooled by Ahli disguised as an angel, he accepted the "trial of the Extraordinary Sage" and was sent by Marvin's manipulations to the Shadowfell's Black Tower to fight Shar's disciple Nokotina 393 394. After defeating Nokotina, Lorroakan's greed drove him to grab a page from the Book of Night, causing shadow energies to violently consume him, ending his life 395.
