Background
Lorroakan was formerly a member of Amn's Cowled Wizards. Backed by House Selemchant, he accumulated substantial wealth through magical inventions and investments, including permanently waterproofed clothing for which he collected patent fees. After reaching the sixth layer of the Weave and becoming a high mage, Amn's restrictions on magic increasingly obstructed his research. A private experiment was exposed; although he paid heavily to avoid harsher punishment, House Selemchant ultimately exiled him. 289
He chose Baldur's Gate over cities such as Waterdeep, which he considered too crowded with legendary figures and divine Chosen. Upon arrival, he rapidly established himself through wealth and connections, purchasing Sorcerous Sundries from the council and opening Lorroakan's Animal Boarding Center outside Basilisk Gate. 289
Appearance
Lorroakan is a reasonably handsome man in his early thirties, with pale skin carrying an unhealthy pink tint and thick, smooth orange hair. He conspicuously displays both magical power and wealth.
- Lavish wine-red mage robes embroidered with gold. 289
- Numerous magical accessories. 289
- Later wears an exceptionally extravagant wizard's robe. 295
- Often carries the rare staff Athkatla's Despair. 292
Personality
Lorroakan is exceptionally ambitious, status-conscious, and arrogant. He sees a mage tower as the ultimate mark of arcane power and imagines himself eventually surpassing figures such as Elminster, Szass Tam, and Karsus. 292 296
His confidence regularly becomes self-defeating. He openly revealed his plan to use Ramazith's lover's corpse as the key to Ramazith's Tower while trying to impress Ailei, and later underestimated both the Flaming Fist and Marvin Rodhart. 290 292 295
He is also vain and romantically delusional. He interprets professional courtesy from Freya as attraction, assumes that Ailei must be controlled by Marvin, and views influential women primarily as possible marriage alliances or sources of political and financial advantage. 291 295 319
Despite his vanity, Lorroakan resists direct mental domination. When Baron Hunel attempted to make him serve Gargauth through the Shield of the Hidden Lord, Lorroakan's prior use of Resist Enchantment allowed him to retain his autonomy. He then chose to feign compliance and seek to exploit the Knights of the Shield for his own rise. 295 296

- His elemental army killed many demons during the battle against Cyric's Chosen, earning him public fame as a “Hero of Baldur's Gate.” 319

- Sea spirit's body — The preserved corpse of Ramazith's lover, purchased for 36,000 gold coins and intended as the key to solving Ramazith's Tower's riddle. 292 293

Story Role / Major Arcs
Pursuit of Ramazith's Tower
After arriving in Baldur's Gate, Lorroakan sought to acquire Ramazith's Tower and become the city's foremost mage. He used wealth, political contacts, and the Ramazith Tower Management Committee to pursue the purchase, intending to solve the tower's riddle with the corpse of Ramazith's sea-spirit lover. 289 291 292
He attempted to restart the tower's dormant magic well and seize control by summoning water and air elementals during a thunderstorm. The Flaming Fist arrested him after Marvin's Karsus's Scroll of Foes provided a decisive advantage against his summons. 292
The confiscated sea-spirit body ultimately became useful to Marvin in studying and controlling the Sea Spirit Skull, making Lorroakan's failed scheme an unintended benefit to his rival. 293
Hunel Estate and Gargauth
Humiliated by his imprisonment and unable to recover the sea-spirit body, Lorroakan accepted Baron Hunel's invitation to the Knights of the Shield's hidden temple. He resisted Gargauth's projected mental influence, then decided to infiltrate the organization rather than submit to it. 295 296
He discovered part of the ritual circle intended to use Freya's divine power, but could not fully dismantle it. He fired Disintegrate at a core rune, hid, and later mistakenly concluded that he had personally destroyed Gargauth's scheme and rescued Freya. 302
The Flaming Fist arrested and interrogated him as a possible devil accomplice. After his release, he used the incident to publicly denounce the Flaming Fist and Grand Duke Ravengard. 299 302
Political Opposition in Baldur's Gate
With Marquis Bormul and the visiting Chosen of Tempus and Waukeen behind him, Lorroakan positioned himself as an advocate for Baldur's Gate's “safety” and a critic of Flaming Fist corruption. His actual aim was to weaken Ravengard's military authority and influence the coming ducal election. 301 302
His public stature grew after his elemental summons helped repel demons during the battle against Cyric's Chosen. Merchants and patriars began calling him a Hero of Baldur's Gate, further feeding his ambition. 319
Relationships
- Ailei Teshir Stelmane — Desired marriage alliance target; Lorroakan repeatedly sent gifts and attempted to impress her with his wealth, inventions, and plans for Ramazith's Tower. Ailei remained polite but distant. 290
- Marvin Rodhart — Rival for influence in Baldur's Gate and control of Ramazith's Tower. Lorroakan repeatedly underestimates Marvin and suspects him of magically controlling Ailei. 291 295 319
- Freya Sione Hunel — Lorroakan is infatuated with Freya and falsely believes he saved her twice from Gargauth's plot. 295 302 319
- Baron Hunel — Attempted to recruit Lorroakan into service to Gargauth; Lorroakan pretended to cooperate while seeking to exploit the Knights of the Shield. 295 296
- Gargauth — Attempted to control Lorroakan through the Shield of the Hidden Lord; Lorroakan resisted and regarded the archdevil as a potential source of leverage rather than a master. 295 296
- Grand Duke Ulder Ravengard — Political adversary whom Lorroakan publicly attacks over the Flaming Fist's record and his own imprisonment. 301 302
- Marquis Bormul — Political ally supporting Lorroakan's challenge to Ravengard and the existing balance of power. 302
- Faral “Beastfang” Mloelson — Chosen of Tempus introduced by Lorroakan as one of his powerful backers. 301
- Aslana — Chosen of Waukeen introduced by Lorroakan as a political supporter; she does not accept his proposed treatment for her injury. 301 320
- House Selemchant — His former Amnian patrons; they supported his rise but exiled him after his illegal magical experiment was exposed. 289
Trivia
- Lorroakan spent 36,000 gold coins on the sea-spirit corpse intended to unlock Ramazith's Tower. 293
- He regards owning a wizard tower as the difference between a wizard and a nonentity, calling the gap “as vast as the difference between a goblin and an elf.” 292
- Daisy, Ailei's unicorn, attacked him with a Radiant Horn Strike after he proposed sedating her with his animal-boarding potion. 289
