Background / History
Tyrande is summoned from the Altar of Elders as Huang Long's second elite hero, selected for the support value of Trueshot Aura to the faction's archer and huntress forces. Her summoning consumes a Level 7 Hero Soul. 34
Unlike Huang Long's ordinary heroes, Tyrande retains the pride and religious devotion associated with her former status as a Priestess of the Moon. She initially refuses Huang Long's command, asserting that her loyalty belongs to Elune and that the Huntresses are the Moon Temple's forces. 35
Huang Long challenges her faith by having her attempt to contact Elune. Tyrande receives no response, leaving her shaken and unable to reconcile the apparent abandonment of the Night Elves. 35 After learning that she is no longer on the Lordaeron Continent, she accepts Huang Long's offer to remain with his faction, though she insists that he cannot force her to do anything she dislikes. 36
Before joining Ina and Elisa's expedition, Tyrande raises the issue of command authority among the heroes. Huang Long resolves it by allowing her to command them only if she surpasses them in strength and they willingly accept her leadership. 36 37
Appearance
Tyrande is a female Night Elf who rides a massive white tiger and carries a silver longbow. She is described as exceptionally beautiful, but her expression is usually cold and unreadable. 35
- Clad in silver armor. 35
- Wields the Moon Goddess's Bow, an enchanted silver longbow. 35 42
- Rides a fierce white tiger. 35
- Usually maintains an expressionless, composed demeanor. 35 36
- Her face flushes when her faith in Elune is shaken. 35
Personality
Tyrande is proud, self-possessed, and unwilling to submit blindly to authority. Even after joining Huang Long's faction, she carefully exploits the terms of their agreement and challenges the unclear hierarchy among his heroes. 36
Her devotion to Elune is deeply ingrained, and the failure of her prayers causes a rare loss of composure. Despite this crisis of faith and the unfamiliarity of her new world, she ultimately chooses to stay with the Night Elf faction in part because Huang Long's presence eases her anxiety. 35 40
She is compassionate toward living creatures and objects to the extermination of magical beast lords merely because they might become threats. This directly clashes with Ina's absolute loyalty to Huang Long's orders. 40
In battle, Tyrande is calm, analytical, and disciplined. She can take command in a desperate situation, organize scattered units into an effective defensive formation, and restrain her allies from wasting resources even after Trueshot Aura improves their killing power. 42 She later acknowledges that she is better suited to support, scouting, strategy, and advising than to serving as an army's inspirational front-line commander. 50
Abilities & Skills
Trueshot Aura
Tyrande's hero skill strengthens allied ranged units near her. It increases their attack power; nearby archers also experience a notable increase in effective range after the aura activates. 34 42
- Enhances allied archers and Huntresses. 42
- Allows allied ranged units to kill creatures that previously survived a single arrow. 42
- Improves the Night Elf force's morale and short-term defensive power. 42
- Does not solve the force's resource problem; increased attacks consume magical arrows and mana more quickly. 42
Searing Arrow
Tyrande can fire arrows empowered with fire damage. 50
- Used to kill a Level 5 monster in a single shot. 50
- Reserved for moments when allies face genuine danger, conserving her strength against the endless enemy horde. 50
Battlefield Command
Tyrande demonstrates precise tactical judgment while trapped with Ina, Elisa, Lucy, archers, and Huntresses against an endless stream of demonic creatures. 42
- Positions Elisa's Huntresses at the front to absorb and block attacks. 42
- Orders archers to fire from within the Huntress formation rather than expend stamina on evasive maneuvers. 42
- Assigns Ina to immediately eliminate creatures above Level 5 before they reach the formation. 42
- Prioritizes holding the defensive line and conserving Moon Well water, mana, and arrows over pursuing experience or kills. 42
Equipment / Mounts
- Moon Goddess's Bow — Tyrande's silver longbow; used for highly accurate ranged attacks and Searing Arrow. 35 42 50
- Silver armor — Her distinctive Priestess of the Moon armor. 35
- White tiger — Her massive tiger mount. 35 40
Relationships
- Huang Long — Her faction leader. She initially rejects his authority and remains wary of him, but joins his team after failing to contact Elune; his presence later gives her reassurance in the unfamiliar world. 35 36 40
- Yudian — A fellow elite hero who feels an inexplicable familiarity toward her. Huang Long deliberately keeps them apart to prevent Yudian from repeating the path of his former life. 35 37
- Ina — Archer Captain and expedition leader. Their relationship begins with open friction over Huang Long's orders and the killing of magical beasts, but Ina entrusts Tyrande with command during the cave siege. 40 42
- Elisa — Huntress Captain. Elisa reveres Tyrande because Huntresses traditionally serve as Moon Temple guards, though Tyrande later sternly rebukes her for damaging morale during the siege. 40 50
- Lucy — Archer who follows Tyrande's command during the cave defense and is included in Tyrande's tactical deployments. 42
- Elune — Tyrande's moon goddess and former central devotion. Tyrande is devastated when she cannot sense even a trace of Elune's power through prayer. 35
Story Role / Major Arcs
Summoning and Crisis of Faith
Tyrande arrives as Huang Long's second elite hero, but immediately contests his command and claims exclusive authority over the Huntresses. Huang Long forces her to confront the fact that she cannot contact Elune, beginning the collapse of her former certainty. 34 35
Conditional Allegiance
Given the choice to join Huang Long or leave without exposing the Night Elves' existence, Tyrande chooses to remain. She secures the condition that she need only obey orders she does not dislike, then tests the faction's internal hierarchy by questioning who should lead the expedition. 36 37
Expedition into the Hidden Cave
While helping eliminate magical beast lords, Tyrande argues that the creatures should be spared. She follows Ina and Elisa into a hidden cave despite sensing unease, where the expedition encounters a demon world and becomes trapped by endless hostile creatures. 40
Defense Against the Demonic Horde
With the force close to collapse, Tyrande takes command from Ina and reorganizes the Huntresses and archers into a coordinated defensive line. She advances from Level 4 to Level 5, gains Trueshot Aura, and prevents her allies from wasting their dwindling supplies in pursuit of kills. 42
Attrition Battle
As Moon Well water runs out and the horde continues, Tyrande conserves her strength and uses Searing Arrow only to save allies in immediate danger. She identifies that an unseen controller may be directing the monsters and insists that the group must not reveal all its strength prematurely. 50
