The ANBU are depicted as covert village forces rather than a single unified organization. Konoha employs ANBU-trained specialists and masked operatives for urgent military communications, while Iwagakure and Sunagakure also field their own ANBU teams for clandestine missions. 6 30 57 124

Kirigakure's ANBU become central to the village's internal restructuring after the Fourth Mizukage's rise. Uchiha Narong enters the unit under the false identity of a civilian orphan named Narong, using the codename Crow; the identity is inserted during the post-coup reorganization, when the force urgently needs personnel. 45

Narong first serves as an ANBU trainee and later as Yagura Karatachi's personal guard.
