Reality naturally could not cut corners like Blizzard, removing most of Azjol-Nerub's maps and regions so players could dive through a hole straight into the underground abyss's Hatching Pools, then face Anub'arak directly.
According to Azjol-Nerub's map provided by Azjol-Nak, Dranosh and the Kor'kron Vanguard could only fight their way from the Gilded Gate down to the Hatching Pools in the deepest underground abyss.
They used gunpowder and torches to blast open sealed passages and burn away the obstructing webs. Even though those webs were as hard as steel, they could not withstand prolonged burning.
Only after truly entering Azjol-Nerub did one understand why it was called a kingdom. Across a region more than a thousand meters beneath Northrend, after the countless carvings of the Nerubians, vast hollows had formed. Nerubian cities and villages had been built within those enormous caverns.
Azjol-Nerub's architectural style was almost identical to Scourge structures such as necropolises. That was because the Scourge had imitated Azjol-Nerub's architecture. Walking through Azjol-Nerub was like walking through a Scourge city.
After several hours of marching, the Kor'kron Vanguard reached the first city of the Azjol-Nerub Empire beyond the Gilded Gate. However, the city's name was recorded in the Nerubian language, and Dranosh's group had no idea what it was called.
Yet when they arrived, everyone was stunned by the sight before them.
