Several days had passed since the Kor'kron Vanguard discovered the ruins of Naxxramas. During that time, the Kor'kron Vanguard had been traveling through Azjol-Nerub.
The food they had brought was nearly exhausted, but Azjol-Nerub was filled with edible fungi and mushrooms. These had once been the staple food of the Azjol-Nerub Empire, but unfortunately, after Azjol-Nerub fell, the dead outnumbered the living, and the Scourge Nerubians' cravings had turned to flesh and blood.

Coupled with the knowledge Azjolnak had taught them about identifying edible fungi and preparing them, the Kor'kron Vanguard no longer had to worry about supplies.
Whenever they rested, they found a semi-enclosed passage and posted sentries. During their time on Azjol-Nerub's first level, they had not encountered any large-scale Nerubian attacks.

The shaft was so deep that jumping in recklessly would mean falling to their deaths unless there was a lake below—unless they could stomp the ground like warriors of the Halls of Valor.
There was an ancient Nerubian elevator nearby, but it appeared to have been abandoned. Moreover, the Kor'kron Vanguard had not brought any Goblin engineers, so they could not repair it.
Though the elevator had been abandoned, the shaft was filled with webs. Under the Scourge's rule, the Nerubians had forsaken their civilization and everything
