Darnassus's architecture followed a largely symmetrical layout. To the north lay the Druids' Cenarion Enclave and the Tradesmen's Terrace; to the south were the priestesses' and sentinels' Temple of the Moon and the Tradesmen's Terrace. At the center were the main gate's Warrior's Terrace, where Rend was located, and the deeper Temple Gardens.

This also proved that in present-day Night Elf society, the Druids and Sentinels held the greatest power. High Priestess Tyrande and Archdruid Fandral Staghelm shared authority over the Night Elves.

The Warrior's Terrace should have housed a large number of regular Night Elf troops. It was essentially Darnassus's barracks, yet Rend and the others encountered very few Nightmare Night Elves. Clearly, the troops stationed here had been transferred away.

Though they dearly wanted to visit the Temple of the Moon, their destination was Archdruid Fandral Staghelm in the northern Cenarion Enclave.

They did not pass through the Tradesmen's Terrace, as it was certain to be heavily guarded by Nightmare Druids. At Rend's suggestion, they chose a bridge over one of Darnassus's great lakes. One relatively smaller bridge led directly to the Cenarion Enclave.

At the same time, on the main road through the Temple Gardens, High Priestess Tyrande shot an arrow through a Nightmare Druid without the slightest mercy. A large number of elite Silverwing Sentinels guarded her side.

Besides them were the Draenei Prophet Velen and Vindicator Maraad. After Archdruid Fandral Staghelm launched his coup, Darnassus had fallen swiftly. However, the Temple of the Moon was protected by Elune and had not fallen. Through the portal within the Temple of the Moon, High Priestess Tyrande had gone to nearby Exodar to seek aid.

The Draenei owed the Night Elves a great debt for allowing them to survive on Azeroth. Thus, Prophet Velen personally led elite Argus
