Background

Rend was born as Blackhand’s son and was forcibly matured by Gul’dan’s warlock magic. The process gave him an exceptionally powerful adult Orc body but left him with depleted life essence, limited potential, and an incomplete soul. Following the death of his elder brother Maim, an otherworldly soul transmigrated into Rend’s body and merged with his own, gaining his memories and full control of the body 1 102.

The new Rend immediately recognized the Blackrock Clan’s precarious position: rejected by the Horde, hated by the Alliance, and used by Nefarian as expendable pawns. He resolved to break Nefarian’s control and secure the clan’s future within the Horde instead 1.

Rend is a black-skinned Orc with a single eye, a powerful warlock-grown physique, and a battlefield presence often marked by heavy black armor and an oversized two-handed sword 70 188.

Personality

Before the soul fusion, Rend was regarded as a reckless and arrogant commander who charged into battle without strategy. His changed behavior quickly surprises allies such as Grommash: he becomes patient, calculating, and willing to use terrain, deception, intelligence, and logistics rather than relying solely on force 3 12.

Rend remains conscious of his own shortcomings. Early on, he recognizes that his resolve and experience in war are inferior to those of veteran Orcs, and fears assassination or encounters with true powerhouses 16 32. Those insecurities persist in his nightmares of being betrayed by both Horde and Alliance leaders 188.
