When Anduin Wrynn arrived at the Second Legion's camp in the Burning Steppes, he was stunned by what he saw.
The Alliance's Second Legion now resembled a band of savages. The scorching environment of the Burning Steppes had driven them to shed their armor. With water so precious, the soldiers saved every drop and could not possibly spare any for washing, leaving each of the Second Legion's warriors looking like a lump of coal.
Hunger had also left the soldiers utterly dispirited. They no longer had the strength to care for themselves, and more importantly, Stormwind's actions had made the Second Legion feel abandoned.
What horrified Anduin Wrynn most was that many soldiers had died of illness from hunger and heat. Their bodies had been piled together because the surviving soldiers no longer had the strength to bury their comrades.
The greatest irony was that the Second Legion had not fallen in battle against the enemy, but had instead been reduced to this state by the very Stormwind they had sworn loyalty to.
