Far beyond Azeroth, somewhere in the cosmos, drifted an isolated landmass filled with fel energy, like a wasteland.
This region had been created by the Titan Sargeras and was known as Mardum. It had once been a prison for demons, but after Titan Sargeras's fall, it became one of the demons' main strongholds.
However, several years earlier, the Illidari under the traitor Illidan had seized Mardum and the Sargerite Keystone through a surprise attack.
Afterward, the Burning Legion launched several fierce assaults in an attempt to retake Mardum. The Illidari forces stationed here paid a tremendous price to hold back the Burning Legion's attacks.
Of course, the Burning Legion's demons were endless. The reason the Illidari had been able to withstand their attacks was that two powerful Blood Elf demon hunters, Varedis and Leotheras, had imitated what Illidan had done when he first arrived in Outland and shut down the Burning Legion's demonic portals.
Skilled at using the enemy's strengths against them, the demon hunters used the fel energy the Burning Legion excelled at to strike the Burning Legion, attacking demons through their understanding of demons.
Illidan had originally located the coordinates of Argus, the Burning Legion's headquarters, and planned to launch a raid upon it. However, Rend's letter delayed him, forcing him to return to Azeroth.
Yet this trip had not delayed Illidan for long. Instead, he had brought the Illidari a group of powerful warriors and the most elite soldiers from Azeroth.
The Scepter of Sargeras was originally a top-tier spatial artifact, more than capable of tearing through the Black Empire domain. The only reason a portal could not be opened while they had been trapped there was that Kael'thas Sunstrider, the Sun King, could not unleash the Scepter of Sargeras's true power.
As for the Sargerite Keystone,
