It was not just the Iron Fleet. The Blood Elf Magic Fleet and the Zandalari Golden Fleet also used their own special methods to transfer their warships here for troop transport and naval combat.

Although the storm caused almost no damage to the Iron Fleet, once it had passed, Warchief Garrosh Hellscream's fleet found itself in an unknown stretch of sea.
Their navigation system had malfunctioned during the storm, guiding the Iron Fleet into the waters northwest of Gorgrond.

Garrosh had chosen Gorgrond rather than Nagrand because he wanted to find the reclusive Blackrock Clan.
