Background / History

Modera was orphaned after her farming parents were killed by beasts near their Hillsbrad estate. Antonidas and Dalaran took her in; she later described Antonidas as the mentor who saved her from a trogg's cooking pot and became a father-like figure in her life. 214 452

By the age of nineteen, Modera had become one of Dalaran's youngest Archmages and its most gifted human female mage apart from the Guardian. Newly admitted to the Tirisfal Council, she volunteered to track down the former Guardian Aegwynn in Un'Goro Crater. 33 56

Her pursuit led to repeated clashes with Aegwynn over the ominous dagger Xal'atath. Modera fought with considerable skill and persistence but was defeated after Aegwynn disrupted her prepared spell with a Magic Missile. While injured and vulnerable to magical backlash, she seized Xal'atath under its influence and stabbed Aegwynn before collapsing. 40 41

Tonatiuh's forces recovered Modera in Un'Goro. Once freed from Xal'atath's influence, she recognized the dagger's danger and asked Tonatiuh to keep it away from her. She remained in Zutona to recover, taught Tonatiuh Common Tongue, and concealed the settlement's secrets from Antonidas in a letter requesting permission to study Kalimdor's alchemy and ruins. 47 52 109

After joining Tonatiuh's expedition into Maker's Terrace, Modera embraced Titan knowledge as the ultimate pursuit of magecraft. The terrace's Titan energy transformed her into a Titan Vrykul and advanced her to Legendary status; she accepted the change as a return toward humanity's Vrykul ancestry rather than blaming Tonatiuh. 100 169

Modera became principal of Tonatiuh School and personally trained Zutona's most promising troll mage apprentices. She later returned to Dalaran with Gina and Anna, secured a mage tower after challenging the Kirin Tor, and renamed it the Tower of Sun, Moon, and Modera. 114 183 238 259

Appearance

Modera was originally a petite, youthful human mage with black hair and delicate features. After her transformation, her true form became that of a five-meter-tall Titan Vrykul with deep-blue eyes flickering with arcane power; she commonly uses transformation magic to retain a human-sized appearance in daily life. 38 169 183

Personality

Modera is intensely curious, ambitious, and drawn to arcane knowledge, ancient ruins, magical ecosystems, and archaeological discoveries. Her original desire to surpass Aegwynn made her reckless enough to pursue Xal'atath despite repeated warnings, but her experience with the dagger left her remorseful and willing to atone. 33 38 73

She is resilient in battle and stubborn when pursuing a goal. Against Aegwynn, she continued casting through pain, exhaustion, spatial restrictions, and repeated failed Blink attempts rather than concede. 40

Later experiences make her more protective and politically assertive. She defends her troll apprentices against Dalaran mages, challenges prejudice toward non-humans, and balances her affection for Tonatiuh with her responsibilities to Antonidas, Dalaran, and her students. 214 237 238
