[Detected female elf Solarian launching a mental attack on the host...] [Host resistance failed.] [Host's mind has been affected.]
This was the information Orendo received from the Eye of Truth after Kel'Thuzad left.
Just moments ago, when he had been deeply tempted by Kel'Thuzad's proposal and desperately wanted to become Antonidas's student,
Solarian Starwrath had used astral illusion magic on him, guiding Orendo's mind and making him subconsciously agree to become her student.
Having only just entered the halls of the arcane, Orendo had almost no resistance to an astrologer's illusion magic.
Neither did the Eye of Truth.
It was merely an aid, a creation of some miraculous being—not some all-powerful system master.
Afterward, Orendo felt somewhat annoyed.
On the way to Solarian's mage tower, he showed a degree of resistance.
Naturally, Solarian noticed.
So when there was no one around, she stopped and turned to look at the boy behind her, his face still childish.
"You noticed?" she said.
"You used illusion magic on me and affected my thoughts," Orendo said directly.
He dared to be so blunt because he felt that saying this would not put him in any danger.
Setting aside Solarian's ties to his parents, this was Violet Academy, Dalaran territory. If Solarian, a Quel'dorei, harmed a human noble here, she would have to consider the international repercussions.
He was quite safe, so he dared to say it so directly.
But Solarian did not respond to that. She gave a cold laugh and said softly, "Do you really think Antonidas would take you as his disciple?"
"Why not?! Kel'Thuzad spent half a year and still hadn't finished the books on the first floor of the library, but I finished them in ten days! Kel'Thuzad can become his student, so why can't I?" Orendo argued.
"You finished the books on the first floor of the library in ten days?" This was the first time Solarian had heard of it, and surprise appeared on her face.
"That truly is impressive."
"But you should understand that even if you were even more outstanding—more outstanding than that Kel'Thuzad—the odds of Antonidas becoming your mentor would still be low."
After saying that, Solarian looked at him.
"Do you know why?"
Hearing how certain she sounded, Orendo hesitated before asking, "Why? Does Kel'Thuzad have some talent that I don't?"
Solarian shook her head.
"The reason is actually very simple. That superhuman genius mage, Antonidas, who has just become a member of the Dalaran Council, is a rare human supremacist!"
"That young Kel'Thuzad was able to become his student not only because he was genuinely gifted, but also because he was human!"
"But during the same period, there was an apprentice even more gifted than Kel'Thuzad. Yet because he was a gnome, Antonidas would not even spare him a glance."
"But I'm human. I'm even a human noble!" Orendo had not expected Antonidas to have such a side, but he still argued.
"Orendo. I know you have half human blood. But what you don't know is that what that human supremacist hates most are half-breeds like you! Your chances of becoming his student are even lower than those of an elf or a gnome." Solarian sneered.
"Never mind a recommendation from a student. Even a recommendation from a human king would mean nothing to Antonidas! Because first and foremost, you are not a pure-blooded human!"
Orendo opened his mouth soundlessly.
He had not expected Antonidas to be this kind of mage. Still, he did not think Solarian was lying, because this sort of thing could surely be found out with a little inquiry.
Antonidas was a human supremacist? Orendo frowned as he thought.
There did seem to be some signs of it.
In the memories of his previous life, in chronicles and in many legends passed down from the past, Dalaran and the Kirin Tor had been places dominated by humans, with elves holding positions of guidance.
After Antonidas rose to power, elven influence in Dalaran declined rapidly. Eventually, it fell so far that even Kael'thas Sunstrider could be imprisoned in the Dalaran Sewers.
Although part of that was because elves were too selfish and arrogant, the influence of humans was also exceedingly obvious.
If Solarian was right that Antonidas was a human supremacist, it would explain this.
And Orendo remembered that Antonidas truly did not have a single non-human student.
Seeing the pensive Orendo, Solarian shook her head slightly and said, "What's so bad about becoming my student? I may not be as knowledgeable or powerful as Antonidas, but I will have only one student."
"Antonidas already has four students. If you went to him, you would merely be one among them."
Things had already been said to this extent. It was too late to refuse, and doing so would only make him seem pretentious.
Orendo was straightforward as well. He once again gave Solarian a childish yet handsome smile with his charm cranked UP, UP, UP. "Say no more, Aunt. I'm willing to be your student!"
The astrologer Solarian... Orendo now recalled who she might be.
If Quel'Thalas did not have another Solarian with the same name and profession, then the Solarian before him might be Grand Astromancer Solarian, one of Prince Kael'thas Sunstrider's closest aides in the future, and one of the leaders of the Tempest Keep flagship.
Though she later became a villain, her mind taken over by the Void and transformed into a blue fatty, she was still a renowned spellcaster with an entire series of cards of her own—far more impressive than those so-called Abel-teaching mages.
And she was his aunt, besides. And she was so beautiful!
Seeing that Orendo had finally "come to his senses," Solarian smiled. It was the first time she had smiled in front of Orendo, and that slight smile alone made the young lord feel that she was incomparably beautiful.
Well... staring at a stunning elven beauty every day was still better than staring at a middle-aged human uncle or an old man every day!
Orendo consoled himself.
And so, Solarian brought Orendo to her own mage tower, a small tower standing beside six enormous mage towers.
Seeing Orendo raise his head to gaze at the massive mage tower not far away, Solarian said softly, "That is the mage tower of Prince Kael'thas Sunstrider, one of the members of the Kirin Tor Council."
Orendo nodded and asked, "Then does that mean most of Dalaran's elves live nearby as well?"
"About half of them," Solarian said. "Those who work or conduct research at Violet Academy are all here."
So this was one of Dalaran's elven districts. Orendo nodded and pointed at Solarian's mage tower. "Are we going in now?"
"Follow me."
