Background / History

Kel'Thuzad was born into the minor noble Deron family of Lordaeron's prosperous East Weald/Wilde Region and is heir to a viscountcy. He later became a student of Antonidas in Dalaran. 19 314

At Violet Academy, Kel'Thuzad was a junior mage with duties connected to the Great Magic Library. His first encounter with Orendo Seferosa left him dismissive of the new apprentice, particularly after seeing Orendo “read” a hundred-page textbook by turning pages every few seconds. 9 10

His opinion changed after Orendo claimed to have read all 31,656 books on the library's first floor. Kel'Thuzad tested him by citing exact pages and sections from several books; Orendo recited each passage correctly. Kel'Thuzad later revealed that he had intended to recommend Orendo to Antonidas before learning that Solarian had taken him as a student. 15 19

Over the following years, Kel'Thuzad became one of Orendo's few close friends and a central figure in Severosa School. He handled financial reports, logistics, school administration, and eventually much of Dalaran's routine government work. 40 132 418

His composure persists even during major personal promotions: he remains outwardly unemotional when nominated to the Council of Six and when surrounded by colleagues offering congratulations. 229 He is also exceptionally low-key for an eighth-circle mage and councilor, often blending into ordinary Dalaran life through plain clothing and restrained magical presence. 300

Despite his reserve, Kel'Thuzad can be recklessly curious. When given access to Hakkar's divine flesh for research, he is the first councilor to take a sample and is tempted by a whisper promising godhood. 285
