Eric poured himself a glass of juice, took a small sip, and said to his parents, "He may be a little slow, but he's not beyond saving."
"You've done an excellent job fulfilling a teacher's duties, Eric."
Jonathan patted Eric on the shoulder in praise.
Clark, standing nearby, felt a little dejected.
With how quickly he had mastered it, shouldn't he have been the one receiving the most praise?
Clark quickly put aside his strange feelings and demonstrated his control to his parents.
A row of candles had been placed on the round table. He took a deep breath, focused completely, and looked at them.
Puff!
The first candle's flame ignited.
Puff! Puff! Puff!
Then the second, third, and fourth candles lit up.
Clark easily used Heat Vision to light the row of candles on the round table.
"Once I know how to trigger the heat, I can control it freely without even thinking about it."

Before Clark could finish boasting, he failed to control the output while lighting the last candle wick with Heat Vision, and its flame suddenly surged upward!
Jonathan and Martha jumped in fright.
"Uh..."
Clark, thoroughly embarrassed, glanced awkwardly at Eric before explaining guiltily to his parents, "There are occasional little accidents."
Jonathan and Martha exchanged a look, both seriously beginning to doubt whether Clark could control his ability.
It seemed Eric still had a long way to go in guiding Clark.
The next day.
Eric received a phone call at home.
After speaking with the caller for a few moments, he hung up.
"What I'm most afraid of seeing is black smoke coming out of a tractor's exhaust pipe."
