Background / History

Diana was raised on Themyscira as Queen Hippolyta’s daughter. Believing herself to have been made from clay, she endured the scorn of other Amazons and trained relentlessly in archery, hunting, wrestling, and weaponry until she earned the title of Amazon Champion. She later learned that she was Zeus’s daughter, a revelation that left her alienated from Themyscira and contributed to her leaving the island. 141 164

During childhood, Diana was branded by witches associated with Hecate. Although the physical mark disappeared after she woke, she retained a curse-like Witchmark within her body that reacts violently to Hecate’s magic and may be used to control her. 164 166

A future incarnation of Diana travels to the early twenty-first century with Kara Zor-El and Hal Jordan, arriving before the Justice League’s formation.
