Background
Yu Xiaogang was born into the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan, but a mutation in his Martial Soul left him with only half-rank Innate Soul Power and unable to advance beyond Rank 29. Unable to become a powerful Soul Master like his father, he turned to Martial Soul research and promoted his own “Ten Core Competition Theories of Martial Souls.” 57 182
He used a Spirit Hall Elder token to access Spirit Hall research material in Nuoding City and cultivated the public identity of “Grandmaster,” an authority on Martial Soul theory. His standing, however, rested heavily on his clan background and his connection to Bibi Dong rather than his personal strength. 6 57
Appearance
Yu Xiaogang is an ordinary-looking middle-aged man with a rigid, gloomy bearing and a visibly frustrated demeanor. 6
- Wears an unattractive buzz cut. 6
- Has a stiff, old-fashioned expression and manner. 6
- Was left missing several front teeth and bearing a palm print after clashes involving Yu Luomian and Tang Hao. 56 272
Personality
Yu Xiaogang is deeply insecure about his stalled cultivation and craves recognition as a great theorist. He views exceptional disciples, especially Tang San, as the means to prove his theories and erase the stigma attached to his own weakness. 54 55 213
He is outwardly proud and confident in his knowledge, even when events contradict his conclusions. He dismisses reports of Soul Beasts and Spirit Rings beyond his accepted theories, and fails to recognize the evolution of Tang San’s Blue Silver Grass. 181 228 313
In crises, he prioritizes his own safety and status. He fled toward Spirit City when the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan faced destruction, leaving Liu Erlong behind, and later sought to bring Tang San into Spirit Hall to improve his own standing there. 239 267 269
