Authority and Methods

The sect maintains its authority through flying-sword cultivators, formation networks, spirit vessels, regional enforcers, and overwhelming retaliation against perceived threats. Its disciples routinely treat common mortals as expendable; during the Holy Maiden's Dust-Severing Rite, an accompanying elder casually released sword aura into a crowded alley because the sight offended him, killing several mortals and severely wounding others. 2

When Lu Chen killed sect personnel and seized the City-Guarding Stele, the sect attempted to conceal the humiliation rather than report that a mortal had destroyed an immortal city's wall and killed a Foundation Establishment steward through physical strength. 10

History

Dust-Severing Rite and Black Mud City Incident

The sect first appeared in Black Mud City when outer disciples arrived by flying sword to prepare the Holy Maiden's Dust-Severing Rite. The rite concerned the site of her former mortal bond, and sect personnel regarded the city's residents as disposable obstacles to be cleared away. 2

An accompanying elder's sword aura slaughtered mortals in the alley and injured Lu Chen while he shielded A-Nan. Li Changfeng and Wang Xuan subsequently allowed the sect's Azure-Water Qilin to feed on the survivors, treating the people as fodder for the beast. 2 3 Lu Chen killed the qilin, defeated the disciples, and later used the City-Guarding Stele to crush a Foundation Establishment steward. 4 9

The loss of the stele and the destruction of the inner-city wall threatened the sect's prestige. The Black Mud City Lord sought to suppress the truth, fearing punishment if the sect learned that a mortal had carried away its city-suppressing treasure. 10

Immortal-Breaking Mountain Campaign

Following the death of Chen Yuanshan, Song Que arrived by spirit vessel as an inner-sect steward. Rather than mourning the dead cultivator, he sought the body-tempering method that had allowed a mortal to defeat a Foundation Establishment cultivator. He ordered Immortal-Breaking Mountain sealed and its water sources diverted to trap the responsible target. 34

The Heaven-Locking Array's pressure devastated the region but also destabilized the sect's own position. Its draining effect drove demon beasts mad, weakened disciples deprived of spiritual energy, and eventually contributed to the collapse of the formation network. 39 45 46

Song Que personally entered the spirit-nullifying forbidden zone with elite disciples. Their flying swords and artifacts became useless scrap when true essence failed, leaving the group vulnerable to Lu Chen's close-quarters attacks. 50 51 Song Que's soul lamp later shattered, confirming his death. 60

Bloodrock Market and the Pursuit Order

An inner-sect envoy arrived after the destruction in Black Mud City, accepting a false explanation that a Blood Demon Sect Golden Core cultivator was responsible. 52 The sect later deployed a warship and Soul-Seeking Compass to investigate the heavenly lightning over Spirit-Severing Valley and locate the supposed culprit. 61

At Bloodrock Market, the envoy recognized the City-Guarding Stele and vowed to kill Lu Chen and A-Nan. 65 He used the Azure Firmament Baleful Suppression Seal, but Lu Chen shattered the treasure's divine essence and destroyed the sect warship and a boundary-stone pillar while escaping into the Wild Poison Miasma Forest. 66 67 68

The sect then issued its Blood Fiend Pursuit Order, escalating the hunt across East Mystic Province. 68

Battle of A Thread of Sky

The sect dispatched 300 elite sword cultivators and ten late-stage Foundation Establishment grand elders to A Thread of Sky. The force brought a bronze war chariot, second-rank flying spirit beasts, formation banners, large supplies of mid-grade spirit stones, and a miniature spiritual-energy domain to counteract the Great Wilderness' spirit-severing environment. 79

Their Azure Lotus Killing Formation failed after Lu Chen shattered its spiritual-energy barrier. The grand elders escalated to the Nine-Star Life-Sacrificing Body-Locking Sword Formation and a Nascent Soul Demon-Slaying Sword Talisman, but Lu Chen endured the attack, activated the stele's sixty-thousand-jin true form, and crushed the grand elder's war chariot. 80 81

The sect's entire 300-person elite vanguard was later confirmed dead when all of their soul lamps shattered alongside the Great Elder's lamp. The disaster triggered nine funeral bells throughout the sect. 88

Continued Interception Operations

Despite its losses, the Azure Firmament Sword Sect continued its pursuit. Patrol stewards tracked Lu Chen through the poison forest, Punishment Division personnel deployed heavy crossbows and trained mastiffs, and the East Mystic Branch established an iron-wall interception formation with 300 Foundation Establishment sword cultivators and five Golden Core formation cultivators. 69 93 101
