History
Founding legacy and marginalization
The Uchiha founded Konoha alongside the Senju, but its members regard the clan as having been mistrusted, politically isolated, and suppressed by Konoha’s leadership since the village’s founding. Uchiha Yo identifies the clan’s principal enemies as factions within Konoha rather than foreign villages. 26
The clan’s formidable bloodline is also presented as a source of political fear: awakened Sharingan users are viewed as exceptionally dangerous combatants, making the Uchiha a potential threat to any ruling group that has wronged them. 83
Retaliation against Root
After Root ambushed Uchiha Ming’s squad, Uchiha members converged on Brightheart Compound in response to a single distress message. Their reaction impressed Yo with the clan’s willingness to avenge any harm done to one of its own. 36
Thirty-seven Uchiha later attacked Brightheart Valley, destroying a Root branch operating under the cover of a trading company. The operation ended without Uchiha casualties, and the clan set the valley ablaze with coordinated Fire Release as a warning. 38
Political expansion
Under Yo and Uchiha Nobunaga’s planning, the clan pursued influence beyond its compound through trade, education, alliances, and public-facing institutions. It established kindergartens, expanded trade caravans, developed links in the Land of Fire’s capital, and cultivated support among civilian ninja and oppressed clans. 68 112
The clan also sought to reshape its reputation by creating the Ninja Blade Tournament, limiting its own future participation to three competitors per event so that civilian ninja and other clans could compete more widely. 68
Water Country campaign
During the conflict with Kirigakure, the Uchiha fought on the front line alongside the Hyuga while Shiranui and civilian-ninja units supported from behind. 238
Yo’s acquisition of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen’s weapons became a major symbol of the clan’s growing military strength. He presented the captured swords to the clan as the Uchiha Seven Ninja Swords, arguing that wartime regulations allowed the Uchiha to retain and use them to strengthen themselves. 238 239
The war inflicted severe losses. Uchiha Ieyasu and Nobunaga died during the battle against the Third Mizukage, while Yo and Fugaku awakened their Mangekyō Sharingan. Fugaku succeeded Nobunaga as clan head and ordered the surviving Uchiha to withdraw from the front line to recover. 284 288
Reforms under Fugaku
At the postwar clan assembly, Fugaku formally received the clan genealogy and the golden seal of Konoha’s Military Police Force, marking his inauguration as clan head. 301
The new leadership opened access to clan archives, appointed Yo as Clan Head’s Advisor, expanded childhood instruction, introduced psychological counseling for Sharingan users, and required Uchiha shinobi to train in the Summoning Realm’s senjutsu practices. 302
The clan later integrated civilian ninja into a reorganized Military Police Force, assigning uniforms according to ability and evaluation while promoting public participation through banners and slogans across Konoha. 309
Abilities & Skills
Sharingan
The Sharingan is the clan’s defining bloodline ability and is extensively integrated into its combat doctrine, especially genjutsu, shuriken techniques, and swordsmanship. 56 66
- Uchiha swordsmen combine ocular perception with Uchiha-style swordsmanship from childhood. 66
- The dōjutsu allows users to observe movement and chakra flow with exceptional clarity. 341
- Clan members employ Sharingan genjutsu to disrupt, restrain, or disorient opponents. 249 250
- The Hidden Mist Technique can hinder the Sharingan’s effectiveness. 282
- The clan treats eye recovery and control as critical concerns because powerful Mangekyō techniques degrade their users’ vision. 427
Mangekyō Sharingan
Several Uchiha awaken the Mangekyō Sharingan during the Water Country campaign, turning it into a central symbol of the clan’s recovery and leadership. 284 288
- Uchiha Ieyasu wielded Tsukuyomi, Amaterasu, and Susanoo; his Susanoo killed the Six-Tails, Saiken. 264 273
- Uchiha Yo awakened a two-petaled Mangekyō after Ieyasu’s death. 284
- Yo’s left-eye ability, Ups and Downs, forcibly captured Black Zetsu and sealed it into his left eye. 418
- Yo’s Mangekyō later evolved into a seven-petaled form after receiving his mother Uchiha Ran’s eyes. 429 434
- The clan concealed multiple Mangekyō pairs as strategic trump cards after discovering enemies capable of imitating Uchiha abilities. 303
Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan
The Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan is achieved through transplantation between close blood relatives and prevents the blindness associated with Mangekyō overuse. 291 429
- Fugaku attained the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan by fusing with the eyes of Ieyasu and Nobunaga. 292 350
- Yo received Uchiha Ran’s Mangekyō Sharingan after refusing to use Retsu’s eyes, insisting that family members were to be protected rather than exploited for power. 430 431
- Yo’s Eternal Mangekyō greatly accelerated his initial Hellhound Clan Sage Mode training. 437
Hellhound Clan Sage Mode
The Uchiha use the Summoning Realm and the Hellhound Clan’s cultivation system to strengthen spiritual energy, temper willpower, and improve the likelihood of Sharingan awakening. 302 437
- The first stage develops spiritual energy and mental endurance. 437
- The training is intended to improve both Sharingan-awakening potential and psychological stability. 434
- Advanced Sage Mode enhances physical ability, perception, recovery, chakra sensing, and ninjutsu power. 442 443
- Yo successfully entered Sage Mode and began combining it with Light Release. 443
Swordsmanship and ninja blades
Swordsmanship is a foundational Uchiha discipline, taught from childhood and later combined with Sharingan perception and clan-specific styles. 66
- Yo won Konoha’s first Ninja Blade Tournament and trained under Hatake Sakumo afterward. 68
- Uchiha fighters use blade techniques alongside elemental releases, genjutsu, and Body Flicker movements. 249 251
- The clan fields elite ninja-blade users equipped with captured Kirigakure weapons. 238 250
