Background and History

Rejection of Lu Tian

Twenty thousand years before Lu Tian's Shaping Thunder Tribulation, Yuanshi judged the youth's foundation mediocre when he came seeking instruction from the Three Pure Ones. He accepted True Person Huang Long instead, while Lu Tian eventually entered Tongtian's Intercepting Sect. 22 23

When Lu Tian revealed himself as the Primordial World's only Top-grade Innate Spiritual Root, Yuanshi realized the scale of his mistake. He believed Lu Tian could have become a pillar of the Heavenly Origin Sect and compared him unfavorably to Huang Long, whom he had chosen in Lu Tian's place. 23

Conflict with Tongtian

Yuanshi repeatedly criticized Tongtian's policy of teaching without discrimination, arguing that indiscriminate recruitment had left the Intercepting Sect vulnerable to undisciplined disciples and reputational damage. 35 37 Their doctrinal conflict led them to arrange contests between their disciples, including the Western Teachings, to establish the superiority of their respective paths. 23

The rivalry intensified after the Intercepting Sect's disciples overwhelmingly defeated the Heavenly Origin Sect's Golden Immortals. Guangchengzi and Taiyi Zhenren were the only notable victors for Yuanshi's side, leaving Yuanshi humiliated by his sect's performance. 37

The Investiture of the Gods

Yuanshi sought capable disciples and suitable mortal agents for the Investiture of the Gods Calamity. He attempted to claim the Yang siblings through True Lord Yu Ding and had made arrangements for Yao Ji to bear children with exceptional Heavenly Court destiny, but Lu Tian took the siblings into the Western Teachings first. 94

He later pursued Shen Gongbao, bearer of the Visage of the Flying Bear, through Guangchengzi. Shen Gongbao ultimately joined the Intercepting Sect instead, prompting Taiqing to bring Yuanshi a second candidate: Jiang Ziya. 96 97

Yuanshi and Taiqing agreed to cooperate against the rise of the Western Teachings, intending to use Jiang Ziya and the Investiture of the Gods to preserve Eastern Human Race destiny. 97

Escalation against Lu Tian

After Lu Tian absorbed Shi Ji's true spirit into the Shepherd God List and appointed her a City God, Yuanshi personally attacked him. Lu Tian barely endured the strike by drawing upon the Underworld's power, while Jieyin and Zhunti arrived to prevent Yuanshi from taking him to the Purple Heaven Palace. 104

Yuanshi's intervention triggered a clash between Sages. Though Jieyin confronted him directly, Taiqing and Tongtian eventually entered the chaotic void as the situation escalated. 105

During the contest at Square Inch Mountain, Yuanshi armed his disciples with powerful treasures and attempted to intervene after Lu Tian injured Guangchengzi. The Three Sages of the West blocked him, forcing Yuanshi to leave the dispute to the juniors. 112 116

Following Lu Tian's repeated victories over Guangchengzi and other Eastern experts, Yuanshi proposed severing his own growing evil thought into a powerful avatar—the Primordial Heavenly Demon—to restrain Lu Tian without personally confronting the Western Sages. 119

Personality

Yuanshi places great value on pedigree, sect hierarchy, and the prestige of the Heavenly Origin Sect. His original rejection of Lu Tian stemmed from his assessment that Lu Tian's foundation was inadequate, while his criticism of Tongtian centers on the latter's acceptance of disciples regardless of background. 22 35

He is fiercely protective of his disciples, particularly Taiyi Zhenren and Guangchengzi. He personally moved to save Guangchengzi during the Square Inch Mountain contest and was willing to overturn the conflict entirely if his disciple faced mortal danger. 106 116

Yuanshi is also pragmatic and calculating. He works with Taiqing to counter Western expansion, distributes treasures to strengthen his disciples, and treats the Investiture of the Gods as a strategic struggle for sect influence and Human Race destiny. 97 112 119
