Background / History
Zhunti and his senior brother Jieyin established and maintained the Western Teachings in a region whose spiritual veins had been ruined since ancient times. Despite the West's scarcity of resources, the pair attained Sainthood and pursued the revival of the Western lands. 1 10 41
At Spiritual Mountain, Zhunti accepted Lu Tian as a disciple alongside Jieyin. Recognizing Lu Tian's resentment and destructive potential, he taught him the Wrathful Vajra Method, framing that anger as a force for tempering the Vajra Body and eradicating injustice. 1
When Lu Tian's flawed foundation became apparent, Zhunti refused to let him lose hope, promising that if the Heavenly Dao offered no opportunity, he would seize one for his disciple himself. He and Jieyin then invested extensively in Lu Tian's Blood Sea Trial and foundation repair. 6 10 16 24
Zhunti later became a central figure in the Western Teachings' expansion: supporting the westward migration of the Human Race, engineering advantages during the Witch-Demon Calamity, recruiting powerful allies such as Styx and Zhenyuanzi, and competing with the Three Pure Ones for destiny, disciples, and spiritual treasures. 40 41 53 84 112
Appearance
Zhunti is depicted as a bearded Daoist Sage who commonly presents himself with a calm smile or an outwardly compassionate demeanor. During formal gatherings, he manifests a Buddha Dharma appearance and uses a phantom lotus seat despite not possessing a physical one. 3 63
- Long beard, which he strokes while considering cultivation matters. 3
- Often wears a composed or smiling expression, even while negotiating or provoking rivals. 10 84
- Can manifest Buddhist light and a demon-subduing divine pestle in battle. 112
- Uses a phantom lotus seat at the Human Emperor's enfeoffment ceremony. 63
Personality
Zhunti is deeply protective of his disciples, particularly Lu Tian. He directly intervenes to conceal Lu Tian's Demonic Path inheritance, funds his growth through the Blood Sea Trial, and repeatedly tells him to act boldly while relying on his masters for protection. 11 16 105
He is also pragmatic, opportunistic, and politically skilled. Zhunti treats resources, alliances, and official positions as tools for strengthening the West, whether bargaining with Ancestor Minghe, relocating Zhenyuanzi's spiritual root, or offering three thousand disciples to the Heavenly Court in pursuit of influence. 10 53 84 86
Alongside Jieyin, Zhunti frequently employs performative compassion and coordinated rhetoric against rivals. Their public defense of the Human Race's migration combines genuine sympathy with the strategic goal of transferring Human Race destiny to the West. 40 41
