Background & History

Kakashi entered the Ninja Academy with an established reputation as a genius and initially viewed transfer student Uchiha Toru as a threat to his status. Toru defeated him in their first class spar, forcing Kakashi to confront the gap in their strength; rather than becoming discouraged, he resolved to train harder. 2 5

He graduated early during the Academy's first year and later became Konoha's youngest chunin. His rivalry with Toru remained competitive but respectful: Kakashi repeatedly challenged him, insisted on fair combat, and improved through each defeat. 15 20 21 22

After Hatake Sakumo's suicide, Kakashi was left living alone. He honored his father at the cemetery, resolving to protect comrades without violating mission rules as Sakumo had.
