Background / History

Nawaki, Tsunade's only younger brother, was killed at age twelve after triggering an explosive-tag trap during a mission. His death left the twenty-five-year-old Tsunade deeply depressed and unable to move past her grief 1.

Tsunade approached Uchiha Gōka after learning that he was developing a Resurrection Technique. Though initially skeptical as a medical-ninjutsu specialist, she became convinced that his research might offer a real path to restoring Nawaki 1 3 4 5. Gōka later brought her into the Pure Land in soul form, but Nawaki's Crystal Stone Necklace instead led them to Madara Uchiha because of its Nine-Tails chakra connection 6 7.
