Background / History
Madara was one of the Uchiha Clan's previous chiefs and remained the standard by which later generations judged their leaders. Clan members remembered both Madara and Uchiha Tajima as “godlike figures,” while Uchiha Setsuna invoked Madara as the heroic leader the marginalized clan needed. 2 14
He and Hashirama Senju founded Konoha, but their conflicting ideals caused Madara to leave both the village and the Uchiha Clan. He pursued the Eye of the Moon Plan, intending to use Infinite Tsukuyomi to impose peace through world-encompassing genjutsu. 86 98
Madara believed the plan was supported by the ancient tablet at Naka Shrine. Uchiha Gōka later revealed that Black Zetsu had altered the tablet before Madara read it, making Madara an unwitting instrument of Black Zetsu's agenda. 8 86 90
Before his death, Madara entrusted Obito Uchiha with reviving him and carrying out the Eye of the Moon Plan. Obito subsequently operated as the plan's executor. 86 100

He is intensely driven by his ideals and initially refuses to abandon the Eye of the Moon Plan despite learning that Black Zetsu manipulated the tablet that inspired it. The revelation nevertheless makes him visibly shocked and more thoughtful toward Gōka's claims. 90
Madara values power, direct action, and force as solutions to political conflict. Upon learning of the Uchiha massacre and Danzō's involvement, he immediately seeks revenge against Konoha's leadership. 90 95 98

Story Role / Major Arcs
Pure Land Encounters
Tsunade and Uchiha Gōka accidentally reach Madara in the Pure Land when the Nine-Tails chakra within the Crystal Stone Necklace overwhelms Nawaki's trace and guides them to him. Madara demands Gōka's Resurrection Technique, attacks when refused, and is repelled by Malice Rebound. 7 8
Gōka then bargains with Madara for knowledge, using information about the altered Naka Shrine tablet, Black Zetsu, and the Eye of the Moon Plan to force Madara to take him seriously. Madara's Mangekyō insights contribute to Gōka's later breakthrough. 8 10
Confrontation Over the Eye of the Moon Plan
After the Uchiha massacre, Gōka, Tsunade, Uchiha Hōka, and Setsuna return to the Pure Land to explain the truth behind Black Zetsu's manipulation. Madara is disturbed by the massacre, acknowledges Gōka's defeat of Itachi and Obito, but remains reluctant to renounce the Eye of the Moon Plan. 89 90
Madara offers to teach Gōka how to awaken the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan in exchange for revival. Gōka agrees only to a one-day resurrection. 91 92
One-Day Resurrection and Attack on Konoha
Gōka resurrects Madara in Tsunade's home, restoring him to his prime but binding him to the Yomi Resurrection Technique's one-day limit. Madara fails to remove the restriction. 94 95
Seeking Danzō, Madara destroys the Root Organization base and burns down the Hokage Office Building with Majestic Destroyer Flame. He defeats the Third Hokage, Root, ANBU, and several Konoha jōnin before Gōka intervenes. 96 98
Gōka stops him by invoking their agreement and Konoha's status as a village founded by Madara and Hashirama. Madara leaves for Amegakure, confronts Akatsuki, and orders Obito to obtain the Yomi Resurrection Technique after his body begins to disintegrate at the end of its allotted day. 98 100
Support for Gōka and the New Konoha Order
Madara is later resurrected again with Hashirama and Tobirama to support Gōka's Hokage candidacy. Though bound by another curse mark, he agrees to investigate Konoha's condition and back Gōka. 120
At the village-wide meeting, Madara confronts Danzō over the persecution and massacre of the Uchiha Clan. He exposes Danzō's implanted Sharingan, kills Danzō, Koharu, and Homura, and helps clear the way for Gōka's appointment as Hokage. 122 123
Madara subsequently fights alongside Hashirama and Konoha during the campaign that occupies Sunagakure and Kumogakure and leads the remaining villages to surrender under Uchiha-led Konoha. 124
