Background

The clan regards Uchiha Tajima and Madara Uchiha as its previous great chiefs. By the time of the clan-head election, the office had remained vacant for a long period, while the clan believed that Konoha’s leadership was steadily infringing upon its authority and isolating it from village life 2.

Its members were concentrated in a remote residential district near the prison and reported being monitored by ANBU. Uchiha representatives also alleged that many missing clansmen had been persecuted for their Sharingan under Shimura Danzō’s influence 30.

The clan’s dissatisfaction was split between competing approaches. Uchiha Setsuna and other hardliners advocated resistance against Konoha’s exclusionary policies, while Uchiha Fugaku favored a conciliatory course toward the village leadership 14.

History

Clan-Head Election

The clan convened at Nanga Shrine to fill its vacant leadership position and seek a chief capable of reversing its decline 2. Fugaku, a seventeen-year-old elite jōnin with a Three-Tomoe Sharingan, was initially the favored candidate 2.

The election was held through duels at a back-mountain training ground. Fugaku defeated the other challengers, but Setsuna denounced his conciliatory stance and argued that the clan needed a leader willing to oppose Konoha’s leadership 14.

Uchiha Gōka entered the contest, defeated Fugaku with Tsukuyomi, and revealed his Mangekyō Sharingan to the clan and village spectators. With no further challengers, he was declared the new clan head 19 20 21.

Relocation and Economic Revival

Under Gōka, the clan petitioned to leave its remote district and return to Konoha’s center. The request was approved through a village meeting vote, and the clan relocated to the former Senju Clan grounds 31 33.

The move strained clan finances, as its funds were barely sufficient for relocation and rebuilding 34. Gōka responded by organizing clan-run snack businesses selling baijiu, Pissing Beef Balls, and Melancholy Soul-Numbing Rice 43 44.

The businesses rapidly ended the clan’s poverty and made it one of Konoha’s wealthy major clans. Setsuna led capable members into markets across the four major countries, while the clan addressed production limits, poor service, and unemployment through expansion and employee rotation 47 51.

Conflict with Konoha

The clan’s renewed wealth, popularity, and prestige caused Konoha’s leadership to intensify ANBU and Root surveillance 51. Gōka’s killing of Root operatives further escalated the conflict, while clan elders feared retaliation from Shimura Danzō 55 56.

As tensions worsened, some clan members considered a coup against Konoha’s leadership 80 82. Danzō tasked Itachi Uchiha with exterminating the clan, using Sasuke’s safety as leverage 81.

Itachi and Obito attacked the clan at night, killing and injuring numerous members, including Fugaku. Gōka returned in time to drive them off, preventing the clan’s complete destruction 83 84 85.

Rise to Power

Following the failed massacre, Gōka instructed the clan to remain restrained and avoid open clashes with Konoha’s higher-ups while he was away 85. He later returned, publicly challenged Hiruzen Sarutobi’s leadership, and declared his intention to become Hokage 117 118.

After Madara killed Danzō, Koharu, and Homura, the Land of Fire’s daimyō appointed Gōka as Hokage. Gōka named Uchiha elders among Konoha’s senior advisors and announced his intention to unify the ninja world 123.

Konoha occupied Sunagakure and Kumogakure, after which Iwagakure, Kirigakure, and smaller villages surrendered. The resulting world became a unified nation under Konoha and the Uchiha Clan’s leadership 124.
