| First Appearance | Mentioned in Chapter 17; physically discovered in Chapter 26 17 26 |
Background / History
Jiang Lan recalls the Ice Marrow through fragments of purported bloodline memories and identifies it as an opportunity for ice-attribute soul masters comparable in value to immortal herbs. He tells Shui Qinghan that it can aid cultivation, improve or evolve a martial soul, and potentially help her overcome the bottleneck to Titled Douluo. He traces its approximate location to Dragon City. 17
Shui Qinghan’s explorations confirm that the cave lies beneath a natural cold spring in the Far North Mountains. An Ice Extreme Divine Crystal Mine is discovered first; Jiang Lan identifies it as a companion deposit rather than the true Ice Marrow site. 22 24
The group reaches the actual cave through an opening at the spring’s source. Inside the small cavern, white ice pillars contain liquid-like Ice Marrow essence and emit a chill potent enough to freeze souls without Jiang Lan’s Sea of Tides domain. 26
Appearance
The Ten-Thousand-Year Ice Marrow is contained within white ice pillars scattered throughout its cave.
- The pillars vary in size and contain faintly flowing, liquid-like essence. 26
- They release extreme cold and dense, mist-like ice-element heaven-and-earth energy. 26
- A fully depleted pillar dims, collapses, or shatters into fragments or powder. 26 35 40
Properties
Ice-Element Cultivation Resource
The Ice Marrow’s essence is exceptionally pure, vast, and gentle when guided into an ice-attribute soul master’s body. It raises soul power while improving the quality and coldness of the user’s ice attribute. 26
- It strengthens the origin of a martial soul and can indirectly improve innate talent. 26 40
- It is described as capable of transforming or evolving ice-attribute martial souls. 17
- For ice-attribute soul masters, it is considered more valuable than a hundred-thousand-year soul ring or soul bone. 26
- Jiang Lan estimates that even a fingernail-sized amount could allow him and the others to reach Rank 30 within a year. 23
Cave Cultivation Environment
Essence leaking from the pillars creates an unusually effective mimetic cultivation environment.
- The cave’s ice-element energy has condensed into visible mist. 26 40
- One day of cultivation inside is estimated to equal several days outside; two months inside are said to equal about one year of normal cultivation. 26 38
- The environment benefits water-attribute soul masters as well, since ice and water share the same origin. 40
- Remaining Ice Marrow is deliberately left in place so the cave continues benefiting Jiang Lan, Shui Bing'er, and Shui Yue'er. 27 37
Extreme Cold
The cave’s cold is a major barrier to access and extraction.
- Shui Qinghan believes even Titled Douluo—and possibly Super Douluo—would be unable to remain inside for long. 17 27
- Jiang Lan’s Sea of Tides domain negates the elemental cold, allowing him to enter safely and protect companions. 17 26
- Ordinary ice-attribute soul masters cannot easily approach or mine the site without ultimate ice power. 17
Documented Effects
| Recipient | Result |
|---|---|
| Shui Qinghan | Absorbs one pillar over three hours, advancing from Rank 85 to Rank 87 while strengthening her martial soul’s origin and purifying its ice attribute. 26 |
| Shui Qinghan | Later reaches peak Rank 89 after further Ice Marrow cultivation, bringing her one step from Rank 90. 35 |
| Shui Qingrou | Absorbs part of a retrieved pillar and breaks through the Rank 79 bottleneck to Rank 80; continued absorption increases the quality and abundance of her soul power. 38 40 |
| Jiang Lan, Shui Bing'er, and Shui Yue'er | Cultivate using the cave’s ambient energy, which increases soul power and gradually strengthens their martial soul origins. 26 27 40 |
Distribution
At the time of discovery, Shui Qinghan counts forty-nine Ice Marrow pillars in the cave and proposes distributing them among her family and disciples. 26
- Jiang Lan — fifteen pillars planned. 26
- Shui Bing'er — twelve pillars planned. 26
- Shui Yue'er — twelve pillars planned. 26
- Shui Qinghan — five pillars planned. 26

Notable Facts
- The Ice Marrow Cave is located beneath the springhead of a cold spring near Dragon City. 23 24 26
- The cave itself is approximately ten square meters in area and no more than one and a half meters high. 26
- Shui Qinghan preserves the site rather than removing all of its Ice Marrow, judging the ongoing cultivation environment more valuable than storing the resource elsewhere. 27
