Background / History

Lin Qingye came from a hard-line military background and once backed a faction that promised him a Jade-Scaled Five-Extinction Flower. The choice ultimately ruined his prospects: he was plotted against, his One-Word Battle Armor was forcibly stripped away and shattered, and the mental link to it damaged his spiritual power. His cultivation became permanently capped at rank 72, while he lost the ability to absorb new soul spirits, raise his existing soul spirits' cultivation, or fuse new Battle Armor metals. 1 5

Despite these injuries, Lin Qingye became the City Lord of Aolai City. He retained enough influence to conduct Lin Yu's Martial Soul awakening privately, arrange extensive protection for him, and secure opportunities through the city's institutions. 1 7 11

When Lin Yu awakened the Jade-Scaled Seven-Extinction Flower and innate full soul power, Lin Qingye sought a suitable natal soul spirit. Lin Qingye later revealed that his enmity with the Spirit Pagoda stemmed from the attack that crippled him and from its use of human test subjects in creating experimental soul spirits. Obtaining the Poison Angel

Determined to give Lin Yu a powerful natal soul spirit, Lin Qingye takes him to Tianhai City and calls upon a difficult-to-obtain connection. He obtains the experimental Poison Angel, arranges a sealed room for its fusion, and celebrates when Lin Yu successfully gains his first yellow Soul Ring. 2 3 4

Conflict with the Spirit Pagoda

Lin Qingye tells Lin Yu how the Spirit Pagoda's actions left him permanently crippled. Although he does not want his son to join the organization, he ultimately leaves the decision to Lin Yu rather than bind him to his own grudge. 5 6

After Lin Yu brings Na'er into the Lin residence, Lin Qingye accepts responsibility for her care. He eliminates the traffickers who targeted her and sends her to Violet Private Noble Academy, viewing its former-imperial connections as potentially useful for Lin Yu's future. 7 8
