Background / History

The Federation transferred Soul Master registration authority to the Spirit Pagoda in the years before Lin Yu's awakening. Lin Qingye states that the organization subsequently became increasingly overbearing, with Soul Masters lacking powerful backing effectively pressured into joining it. 1

The Spirit Pagoda recruits promising Soul Masters soon after their Martial Souls awaken. Once a student enters an intermediate academy, coercive recruitment becomes illegal, making the early awakening period especially important to its recruitment efforts. 12

Soul Spirit Supply and Recruitment

• In Aolai City, the Spirit Pagoda offers a free Martial Soul awakening service, though Lin Yu undergoes a private awakening through his father instead. 1
• Its Aolai branch charges one million Federation credits for a chance to obtain a hundred-year Soul Spirit; Lin Yu considers the price prohibitive for ordinary families. 3 5 6
• Tianhai City has six branches, one in each district. There, customers can select a desired Soul Spirit range rather than rely on a lottery. 3
• The organization does not necessarily recruit children with high innate Soul Power alone: in Aolai City, even an innate ninth-rank Soul Power child is not invited without a distinctive Martial Soul. 6

Experimental Soul Spirits

The Tianhai central branch maintains experimental Soul Spirits not available through ordinary procedures. Candidates who seek one without joining the Spirit Pagoda are tested for their worthiness before being allowed to attempt fusion. 3

• Poison Element Spirit / Poison Angel — An artificial four-hundred-year elemental Soul Spirit containing the toxic properties of known poison-type plants and animals, including the Jade-Scaled Seven-Extinction Flower. It lacks a Soul Beast bloodline. 3
• Creation method — The Poison Angel was created using genes from poison-type Soul Masters and is described as a standard “Unyielding Destruction.” 4
• Fusion requirement — It must be conquered by its prospective host; Lin Yu withstands its poison and fuses with it in a sealed rented cultivation room. 4

Spirit Ascension Platforms

The Spirit Pagoda operates paid Spirit Ascension Platforms where Soul Masters can increase a Soul Spirit's cultivation through combat with simulated Soul Beasts. 15

• Eastsea City's beginner-level platform is accessed through a transport pod after payment. 15
• Simulated Soul Beasts reproduce natural instinctive behavior despite not being real Soul Beasts. 15
• Staff monitor participants and can alter platform creatures; after Lin Yu defeats the Dark-Gold Dreadclaw Bear through poison, personnel decide to increase its poison resistance for later encounters. 17

Story Role / Major Arcs

Poison Angel Acquisition

Lin Qingye brings Lin Yu to the Tianhai central branch through a recommendation and receives access to an experimental Poison Element Spirit. The branch tests Lin Yu's spiritual power, finding him at 118 points and in the early Spiritual Connection Realm, then permits him to attempt fusion with the Poison Angel. 3 4

Lin Family Grudge

After Lin Yu's successful fusion, Lin Qingye reveals that the Spirit Pagoda was connected to his crippling injuries and explains the unethical cost behind the artificial Soul Spirit. Lin Yu consequently decides not to join the organization. 5 6

Eastsea Life Platform

Lin Yu enters the Eastsea Spirit Pagoda's beginner-level Spirit Ascension Platform to raise the Poison Angel to the thousand-year level. He defeats a Black Albatross, a Human-Faced Demon Spider, and the Dark-Gold Dreadclaw Bear, gaining cultivation increases and the bear's palm bone while platform staff observe and adjust their future settings. 15 16 17
