Xuanyu reunited with Hashira, recruited Kimimaro and Jugo, and forged an alliance with Orochimaru before traveling with Shisui to Yugakure. There they confronted the Evil God Sect, and the arc ended as Hidan joined the battle and Black Flames spread across the cursed seal he was drawing.

• Hashira shattered Kisame’s Water Prison with a giant tree, and Xuanyu and Shisui arrived to free him from Itachi’s genjutsu.
• Shisui revealed himself to Itachi, condemned the massacre of the Uchiha, and urged him to return and atone, but Itachi escaped with Kisame.
• Xuanyu recruited Kimimaro and Jugo, negotiated research support and an alliance with Orochimaru, and revealed himself as Uchiha Xuan Yu.
• Xuanyu sent Hashira, Kimimaro, and Jugo toward Konoha while he and Shisui traveled to Yugakure to seek Hidan and the Evil God Sect.
• After Evil God Sect members abducted a girl and attacked her mother, Shisui punished one disciple and Xuanyu declared that Akatsuki would destroy the sect.
• Xuanyu and Shisui fought the Evil God Sect at its base with Jiraiya, who joined them, and Xuanyu used Dust Release while Shisui and Jiraiya battled the cultists.
• A cultist used Jiraiya’s blood to activate the Death Possession Blood Cursed Technique, but Xuanyu’s Black Flames devoured the Cursed Seal and freed Jiraiya.
• Xuanyu suppressed the cultists with a Gravity Domain as Hidan arrived, attacked Xuanyu, and fought Shisui until Black Flames spread across the cursed seal Hidan was drawing.

Xuanyu dismantled the Evil God Sect’s laboratory, rescued its child test subjects, and negotiated a temporary truce with Obito’s Akatsuki. After time passed, he took the Ninja School graduation exam, earned his Konoha Forehead Protector, and invited his classmates to ramen.

• Xuanyu and Shisui entered the Evil God Sect’s laboratory, discovered children being used as test subjects, and Xuanyu stopped a cultist from detonating the explosive tags hidden throughout the facility.
• Xuanyu freed the children, named the mute girl Chen Xi, arranged for the rescued children to receive care, and destroyed the sect’s underground base.
• Xuanyu left Yugakure Village with the captured cultists and experimental subjects, then told Jiraiya that he cooperated with the Uchiha and that Akatsuki sought peace in the Shinobi World.
• Toad Maru Sage warned Jiraiya that powerful outsiders might invade and later saw a double-pupiled figure among the Black Flames tell him not to change anything.
• Xuanyu confronted Orochimaru over his experiments, while Senju Hanayu impressed Orochimaru with her research and entered his cave to study with him.
• Xuanyu met Obito’s Akatsuki in the Mental Space and negotiated an agreement to avoid conflict for the next few years.
• After completing his Sixth Tomoe, Xuanyu attended the Ninja School graduation assessment, defended Hinata from Hyuga Sosuke, and passed the exam by demonstrating his ninjutsu.
• Naruto also passed the assessment, and Xuanyu invited him and several classmates to eat ramen while Sasuke left to train.

Neji fought back against the Hyuga Main House and left Konoha, while Xuanyu took captives for experiments to remove the Caged Bird curse and help his allies. Mizuki manipulated Naruto into seeking the Sealing Scroll, and Naruto escaped the village with it as Iruka and others pursued him.

• Kurenai accepted Xuanyu as her student while Kakashi and Asuma disputed who would teach Naruto, and Neji was beaten by Hyuga Sosuke’s group before crippling his attackers and leaving Sosuke gravely injured.
• Hyuga Hiashi ordered Neji to leave Konoha to protect him from the elders, but Hyuga Changliu pursued him and used the Caged Bird curse to restrain him until Xuanyu intervened.
• Neji defeated Changliu, and Xuanyu took Hyuga captives to Owuya Bai’s laboratory for experiments on removing Neji’s curse while Kimimaro considered a Byakugan transplant and Neji asked to fuse with Shikotsumyaku Cells.
• Hua Yu injected Xuanyu with the unstable Shikotsumyaku Cellular Potion, and Xuanyu endured the painful transformation as his bones became controllable through Chakra.
• Mizuki told Naruto that he carried the Nine-Tails, that Sarutobi Hiruzen had hidden his parentage and withheld his inheritance, and that the Sealing Scroll could help him become stronger.
• Naruto entered Konoha’s storage pavilion to steal the Sealing Scroll, while Sarutobi Hiruzen ordered the Anbu to let him take it and have Iruka intervene later.
• Naruto escaped over Konoha’s wall with two Shadow Clones, evaded his pursuers in the forest, and began reading the Sealing Scroll before hearing faint footsteps approach.

Naruto foiled Mizuki’s attempt to steal the Sealing Scroll, while Xuanyu advanced his allies’ experiments and coordinated with Orochimaru against Konoha. The arc ended with the Ninja School assigning Xuanyu to Team 8 with Hinata and Shino under Yuhi Kurenai.

• Naruto outplayed Mizuki’s attempts to take the Sealing Scroll, but Mizuki used Orochimaru’s potion to overpower the Anbu and pursue him and Iruka.
• Naruto used the Nine-Tails’ Chakra to perform the Multiple Shadow Clone Technique and defeat Mizuki, then Sarutobi Hiruzen questioned him and heard Iruka and the Anbu plead for his forgiveness.
• Orochimaru revealed that Mizuki had received a Cursed Seal and declined to rescue him, while Xuanyu arranged for Kimimaro and Neji to undergo their procedures.
• Kimimaro received Hyuga Changliu’s Byakugan, and Neji survived the first stage of Shikotsumyaku integration despite the pain.
• Hyuga Sosuke woke with broken limbs and vowed revenge on Neji, while Xuanyu invited Orochimaru into Akatsuki’s Zodiac and they discussed confronting Konoha during the Chunin Exams.
• Orochimaru considered using Impure World Reincarnation against Konoha, while Shisui and Hashirama escaped Zetsu’s surveillance and planned to guard each other when entering the mental space.
• Xuanyu returned to the Ninja School as students received their team assignments, and Kurama sensed Xuanyu’s immense power when he briefly entered Naruto’s Spiritual World.
• Iruka assigned Naruto, Sakura, and Second Pillar to Team 7, then placed Hinata, Shino, and Xuanyu on Team 8, which Yuhi Kurenai led out of the classroom.
